Winter route question

80 to 99 and back on 58 is shorter than going to Vegas and stuff. If 395 is bad you may luck out and catch a break and get over Donner. I think it's almost 200 farther going through Vegas than 395.

 

The 395 can get nasty especially on those big mountain passes like Conway Summit. If the weather is bad you are kinda screwed because it wont matter which way you go. When the time comes keep an eye on the weather and make your decision then. If the weather is bad to the south take the 80 to the 99 to the 58.
If the weather just sucks all around the 95 might be good besides all the extra miles.
Another option if weather over Donner and south of there is nasty but good to the north of there would be to take the 395 north to the 36 west to I-5 south.

 

If the storm is still sitting on the 395 route....ge east on 80 to Fernley, US 50 to Fallon, south on US 95 to NV 360 then right on US 6 takes you back to 395 in Bishop. This route keeps you out of CA and the mess over 395.
