IMG_5813.jpg Discussion at the truckstop regarding the issue depicted in the photo (in case it isn't clear, this is the bottom of an airbag). The trailer is empty, and the airbag itself appears to be inflated.

Interested to hear opinions on the following questions that were raised:
    1) Would a driver be placed out of service for this?
    2) What if the driver was in route to a company shop for repair? Would it matter?

I would think as long as there isn't a load in the trailer it would be fine, assuming threat driver was enroute to a Repair facility

Mark it and date it with a paint marker.

Might tickle the DOT officer enough to overlook it and let you roll on till it's convenient for you to get it fixed lol

You should always carry some kind of club so if the DOT does try to put you out of service you can knock him out and run.

Seriously, that would not put you out of service as the air bags are still working.

If there is no air leak, and the damage does not affect the integrity of the suspension, then there is no reason for the officer to place you out of service. If you're curious what exactly can put you OOS, the criteria they use is all right there in that little green book.
