I have never understood the mentality of " i ain't paying to park". If you are a O/O or L/o, it is a direct writeoff as a business expense.
If you are a company driver, your company should re-imburse you that expense. If they don't, you can write it off on your personal income tax as a job expense, just keep the receipts.
How hard is this to figure out?
Would you do business at a truck stop that charged for parking ?

They are a company that is in business to make money. Most of the "pay to park" places are in/close to metro areas.
Land isn't cheap. They have to maximize the costs.
They aren't in the business of providing you a place to park. Most, if not all, have as a policy, "if you buy so much fuel, or spend so much in the store", your parking is free. Don't spend any money in the truckstop, then why should they provide a "free" parking spot??
And as far as "when will it end", get used to it, it will only get more widespread as costs go up for their business.buzz1670 Thanks this. -
When I go to the northeast or to south Florida I usually have to pay to park. I don't mind it cuz like you said, the land is definitely not cheap.
My company reimburses for parking but id still pay even if I didn't get reimbursed. I usually try to get 50 gallons of fuel at the place I park, that way parking is free and I also get a free shower.
