most guys I talked to found a way to defeat this system. I pulled the fuse 15 minutes after being issued a newer truck, put a blown fuse back in for every service and they never caught it. "oh, my lane departure warning system failed 30,000 miles ago and I forgot to report it, oops" terrible safety feature. try hauling an OD load with it.
there are no cameras in the trucks other than the lane departure warning system, which isn't really a camera in that it doesn't take pictures.

Agree w/Carters statement. No Cameras in the truck. These "lane change systems" are apparently just totally deFUNKtive. Never had any problem from mine. Just have to turn it off every couple of days, then it's quiet for miles & miles. No rumble; No problem, right?

I hate so have to say it, but it needs to be said:
They hired me to drive, I purport to be a driver. That means I know how to hold my lane. Also means I know how to keep a respectable following distance, without some darned foolish VORAD telling me how close to be, or not to be. My own eyes, as old and tired as they may be, can much better judge road conditions than ANY computer yet invented.
[DISCLAIMER: this could change as my eyes become older & tireder, and computers become more advanced... but we ain't there yet. Wake me up when I start drifting over into your lane. -
I pulled the fuse for my Vorad 2 months before I quit, to condition myself to driving a truck without one. a Pete 379 without all that ##### beeping and lighting up every 30 seconds is actually a pretty sweet ride. my VORAD beeped at every bridge, overhead sign, telephone wire, and bird that I drove under.
with the money TMC would have saved on installing electronic safety features, they could probably afford to pay drivers that don't need them. I don't disagree Vorad and Iteris are good ideas, but they are only psychological tools and not concrete, physical safety features. they are only as good as the person paying attention, or ignoring them. the Vorad beeping drove me insane. -
C&W Trucking out of Winter Haven, Fl is implementing cameras in their trucks, so it's not a far fetched idea that companies are currently doing this. I for one think a camera inside of the cab is a bit bogus, outside I guess I can deal with but you start pushing the boundaries when you want to aim a camera at me 24 hours a day, just seems odd to me.

They just started it this past year.

For quite the wide-ranging discussion on cameras in trucks, take a look at this fairly spirited exchange on Swift's forum.
