Well guys and gals. I made up my mind I'm going with TMC hopefully all goes well but I do have a problem. I live in Philadelphia, PA I was told by my recruiter that before they give me a orientation date I need to tell them where I will be leaving my truck during home time. AGAIN I live in Philadelphia so this is not as easy as it sounds. Any suggestions I could really use some help on this one.

Is there a truck stop near you? Some storage facilities will let you park for a fee. What does TMC require as far as security for parking. I would think alot of times you would be coming home under a load

There are the Jersey truck stops along the pike, other than that, I think the closest to you would be the last rest area on the PA turnpike. Not sure if I'd leave it there though.

See if there are any small trucking co's around that would let you pay to park for a couple days at a time.

Maybe a local construction company with a yard. Local shopping mall, but that might be hard to get a hold of a manager that could authorize that.

If you find a local trucking place to park your truck they may charge upwards of $150 a month to store it there (my trainer paid that for his truck). I had one who wanted to charge me $200 a month, even though its only there 1-2 days a week. I parked in a local shopping mall parking lot a few miles from my house. Twice my fuel tanks got drained and when I filed a police report was told it was illegal to park there since it was township owned. Not sure if a truck stop would be better.

I remember there were certain areas in the country that TMC required secured parking, like a fenced in lot. Areas in around Baltimore was one that rings a bell, anywhere theres high crime and chance of load being or truck being messed with.

Check all around and good luck. It was one of the reasons I left there since I had difficulty finding decent parking. But personal reason was the main reason so don't let parking deter you.

Find a place to park before you go to orientation. Much easier now, than later. (Trust me on this).

Closed factories have been nice to me; even an operating factory (during limited hours).

Be sure to meet the owner/manager/care taker, etc., IN PERSON, face-to-face. This has helped me many times.

TMC likes the written permission; especially when you are just starting out & you're new to them.

Closed retail stores and open Lowes/Home Depot/Local lumber & grocery stores, etc are good places to check. It helps if you KNOW someone... or even someone else, who KNOWS someone.

Remember! Most of time you'll only need to park from 1800 Fri. 'til 0400 Mon., but you will not be there all those hours, only between those hours, and most businesses don't recv shipments during those hour hours. With TMC you'll keep "bankers hours" mostly (at least for the p/up & delivery times).

When you DO find a place to park, take care of it! [Truck parking isn't easy to find] Keep ALL the trash picked up, even if you din't put it there. [Once upon a time, I got caught (by the NEW owner) picking up trash where I was parking. It made an impression... enough of one that he decided to continue to allow trucks to park in that spot.]

FWIW: TMC treated me decent & fair; I don't have any major complaints about them after having spent over two years there. I know I could've ended up in much worse positions as a new driver, and I have worked harder for less money in the past. It is what it is, and it ain't peaches & cream anytime.

Good luck to you. Stay off the grass; don't smoke it & don't walk on it, either.

Do you have a "permission slip" signed by someone in charge, or of authority to sign? Perhaps even a liability waiver? That's the way to roll.

Do you have a back-up location? Contingency [Plan B], I think is what you call it. That's the way to roll.

Who's responsible when something wonky happens? What if someone steals your cb (furnished by TMC), or... well, lots of strange things happen in truck stop lots. That's NOT the way to roll.
