I'm planning on buying one of the 2006 379's but its like pulling teeth trying to get the specs other than the rear gear, trans, engine, etc. I was wondering what RPM's yall are running at 62mph with the 3.55 rear gear. Once bought, the governor would be removed and I would like to keep it around 70mph. The truck I'm in now runs 70 at 1450 rpm. If the pete is close to that then that would be fine with me. If not, I'll have to either change the rears or find another pete.
Also, what about fuel mileage? I will be pulling a van with less than 12k in the box (usually) so I know it is like comparing apples to oranges when yall pull skateboards but I'm still curious. Most of the TMC guys that would answer me on the CB said 6 or 6.1mpg.
Thanks!

Eatons website has a speed calculator. so you can figure it yourself. I would be suprised if you would get over 5mpg with that truck and a van at 70 mph.

TMC doesn't run flatops. Those new 579s are the closet thing they've got. -

I have an '07 379 that we bought from them when they were in trouble in '10. I run 68 mph at 1375 rpm's and I got 6.19 on all miles last year.

First off, if buying used tmc, keep in mind, they only change the oil and do service every 40,000 miles. Also, they were driven hard by newbie drivers especially considering the 13's cant take as much abuse as a 10 speed. Many are nearing the point that they will need an in frame.
They are set to 62 mph and will use about 1400 rpms to get there (depending on tire size) Those cats start gulping fuel if you go above 1400 rpms. Most tmc drivers know that the computer says there mpg is, but few actually look at the tank reports on their pay check. Fleet average on the long haul 379's was 5.4 when i drove one 6 months ago. (12 month average, including winter) I have the fleet average numbers for every snapshot from april 2012 until july 2013. aug 2012-july2013 averaged 5.4. (not my truck, but the fleet wide average) Now, you will have lighter loads, but those trucks are simply not specked to go 70 mph. You will be working them really hard to do that. If you really plan to go 70, you should look for a truck with a lower number rear end, or at least spek bigger tires.BulletProof Thanks this. -
