Hi I'm looking to get into the industry. Weighing my options and trying to get advice. Wondering if it'd be good to get cdl from a school locally and then try tmc or would it be best to go to a company like roehl and get some experience along with the training. All info is greatly appreciated and I'm open to other companies as well

If you get it on your own, at a school, you won't be beholden to work for a company for a length of time because they provided you with training. If it were me....I'd do school on my own.

    Chinatown Thanks this.

Hey just sen your post. If you can afford the school on your own then I would recommend going that route. If you go thru a company to get it you are signing a contract with them and most of those are about a 2 year contract and possibly leaves you owing them around $5000 if you break that contract. Alot of companies give sign on bonus or a reimbursement for school. I'm with Maverick and I know we pay upto $3500 back to you for your school tuition. I'm also otr instructor here been here for almost 7 years and I still really enjoy it. They treat me good like family and keep me rolling. Pay is good just for example as a company driver on e logs running 100% legal I was able to make over $70k for the year before taxes.we over positions in tcd glass and flatbed ( I'm in flatbed). As long as you have your cdl we provide all other training needed to do this successfully and we have one of the best training programs on the road along with some of the pay while in training. Give recruiting a call at 18002891100 they can give you alot of info that could be usefull. And remember nobody should have to "pay their dues" to any company or training program to get a good successful start in this career. It's all about finding the right fit for you and what you value. For me maverick treats me as family as well as my wife and the company holds moral values that are very simular to my own it's not for everybody no company is but there is one that fits what you need. Do your research and talk to drivers and when speaking with recruiters always ask of they work on commission if so you are dealing with another car salesman 5 hey will bend the info to fit what they think you want hear.good luck and stay safe let me know if I can help in any way.

From my research it seems that going to a school then choosing a company is best route. However it's quite a bit of money to scrap up and dish out at once. I've also looked into companies like roehl and seem to have a lot of positive feedback and reviews from trainees. I appreciate all the info and any future info you guys post

Out of curiosity have you checked on grants and things like that even you local unemployment office maybe able to help. Each state contributes to these cdl schools to help people out. Might be worth checking into.

From what I have found out cld schools accept wia which is offered here in ky. One of the requirements though is you must be unemployed or laid off to recieve. I'm gonna try to do some research and see if I can find any other type of grants that I may qualify for. School I looked at is $4100 not counting lodging which can be added. School is aprx 70 miles from my home

What part of ky are you in maybe I can help find some info for you. I got some friends spread across ky and some office people with some knowledge of different programs. I've good things on rhoel I just was just a little skidding of their pay scale.

Seems drivers make fairly descent for new drivers from reviews I've seen. But they all know as well as I do it's pretty much a starter company
