    1. Id like to be home with my family most weekends. For the guys that go home every weekend, how long are you actually at home? Of course ideal would be home on friday night, leave monday morning. But I know thats just me dreaming....

    2. How do they assign trucks? I dont care about how new or old my truck is but I prefer a 579 since it has the rounded nose. I have only done one trip in a long square nosed truck and I was very nervous. You cant see for the first 20 feet in those things. Just dont feel safe. Even during my CDL school, I was in round nosed trucks. Although, its one of those things Im sure Id get used to.

    3. Ive heard many people tell me about how picky TMC is on their rules. I dont know what all the drivers meant by this but it seems keeping the truck clean is #1. Cant say I blame them since they are peterbilts. I got some flatbed experience. How do you guys clean your truck and keep it nice with the places we go to? I can vacuum daily and such but I remember all the dust from lumber mills and dusty roads. Seems like my dash and instruments were constantly coated in dust lol. Just getting ideas on how I can keep the company happy. Not to mention the mud and stuff you track into your truck during rain and snow...

Truck Wash's they want it washed weekly, but will let you go out to 2 weeks. And they monitor how often you get it washed. Its paid for by them at select truck washes. Other rules are staying off the grass in Des Moines. There are others, but really they are there for a reason.

Takes what? An hour to wash? I don't think it's to much to ask to wash the truck, even less when its money that isn't from your pocket

Its only once a week and as said by Gunner75 takes all of an hour if that. When I was there it was never a problem on lost time. Although I thought it was wasteful having to wash it during snow storms but they said wash it. Nice to have a clean shiny truck then look just like some of those dirty old heaps lined up at the truck stop.

It's every 2 weeks for a wash and if you chooses to it can bee every week. We direct bill it so yo you wont pay out of pocket first. Our "network" is not Blue Beacon although we use some of them...its a mix of them and other, smaller private locations. What I did was try to do it every week and keep an eye out for ones with no lines. If I didn't find one w/0 a wait i would stretch it to two weeks because I didn't want to loose time (the line waiting ended up not being an issue that way). A great hint on keeping the gauges and dash clear of dust: SWIFFER DUSTERS! I found they do a great job of getting all the nooks and crannies clean in a few moments of use.

We assign trucks based on what is available when you finish orientation. Given the new 579's are becoming more common (we take on 50+/ month as we fill a 1500 order) you stand good odds of that. As for the hood, it's all about simply being used to it. Just like learning to double clutch it becomes what you "know" in short order. I drove a 379, 388 and 579 and didn't find the nose and issue.

HOME TIME. Our policy (for most areas) is now "home every weekend". Home usually is Friday evening through either ?Sunday night or Monday morn. If you are smart you'll ship out on Sunday night to be able to be first in line Monday a.m. and get empty w/o starting your clock, leaving a full 11 open to start your week. That simple step can boost your income as much as 20% and help ensure you get home earlier on Friday.
