Just finished the entire thread, well written and a ton of good information. Thanks for telling it like it is! Live here in SW Ohio, looking to get into trucking as soon as I make up my mind to retire from Nursing (great money=greedy)!!. Just reading the threads and gathering as much info as I can. Flat bed or Tanker is what looks like the best so far. Thanks again for your sharing your experience and may God Bless you and your family.

Is a % of your take home pay not taxed? I know that if you are paid by the mile that some of their gross pay is not taxed. I'm not really sure about how it works, but I was just wondering if it's the same for guys that run % pay.

Also do you get paid anything additional for tarping and additional stops or is it all included in your % of the line hall?

The untaxed part is called per deim, is an allowance that everyone gets for working away from home. I also get tarp pay, additional stop pay, detention pay, layover, breakdown, all the usuals

Huh. TMC's payroll department actually takes care of addressing the per diem allowance rate? I wasn't aware of that. That's something that I was expecting to have to address come tax time.

    Gunner75 Thanks this.

I'll have to do more research on that. It would be nice to be able to just keep that money in my pocket, rather than giving the government an interest free loan for several months.

In the end it screws with your taxable gross income. If you are on per deim, your taxable gross is lower, therefore your irs reported income is lower, and it willeffect you when trying to get loans and financing

I didn't think of that. That would hose you down the line for social security too (assuming you were going to be there for a while).
