Day 8 - Butt in the seat - We came in at 6am and were given truck and trainer assignments. You spend one half the day driving around the outskirts of Des Moines. I got a patient polite trainer that worked me through the 13 speed tranny. Other had some rude, cursing trainers. Either way seems everyone passed the day. You will get simulator time in the first day or two and you drive through safety scenarios where your sure to hit at least a deer. And learn to spot potential dangers. You spend the other half of the day working different maneuvers in the yard. 45, serpentine, figure 8, etc.
-
Day 9 - Pretty simple day. 1/2 day in the yard and 1/2 day on the road. We focused on turns while out on the road.
-
Day 10 - we started the day with the training coordinators. I don't know how their systems figures miles. My trainer was in KY supposedly 140 miles. Well google maps puts him at 180+ almost 4 hours away. Talked to the TC at lunch and will get back with him tomorrow.
Drive with the trainer downtown and concentrated on tight turns buttonhook etc. space management on narrow roads. After lunch it was simulators. Went through some rollover and loss of brake scenarios. After that it was out to the yard. It was my night to stay late to do night backing till 8pm.
It is also walmart night. Everyone in and out in 30 minutes. FaceTime the family for a few minutes and straight to bed. Long day. -
Day 11 - Half a day in the Yard and half a day on the road. This is the final day you get graded. No cones!! Went on a long drive on the big roads. We get released at 5 to go to hotel. Will pack our stuff and check out in morning and bring all our stuff with us on the 7am bus.
Puppage Thanks this. -
Day 12 - LAST DAY!!! Well we all passed and will be officially hired after today.
First thing. Clean the inside of all the trucks we've used this week. TMC is fanatical about clean trucks. We clean the windows. Dashboard, floor boards and floor mats.
At 9:30 we are given paperwork to give to our trainer. Given our physical paperwork. And more information till lunch. We then take the group photo outside. We are given our trainers info and travel plans.
I was still given the trainer 4 hours away. I went straight back and found a coordinator and the gave me a trainer less than a 100 miles away, less than 2 hours.
We take the bus straight to the airport for rental cars.
8am the next back in Wild Wonderful West Virginia!!
talked to my new trainer. He's a non-smoker hell yea. He's also empty, so I won't meet him till Monday morning. -
Day 1 - 5 week driver training.
After solving a few issues getting me logged into the trainers Qualcomm we were on our way. We picked up a load of plywood in Craigsville, WV headed to Montgomery, IL outside Chicago. We used my clock to deliver, drove 500 miles and parked outside consignee at 2am. In the sleeper for a couple minutes sleep. -
Paycheck - Week 1- $377. Others netted $415. Just depends on your state and withholdings.
night crarwler and Danvitt Thank this. -
