Congratulations! Good to hear from you again.

I thought one would never have to back into tight spaces with these trucks but man was I ever wrong. Have you ever been to Tamco? The inside bays you have to back into are ridculously tight. You cannot get two fingers between the trailer and the wall. I have seen experienced drivers have a lot of trouble getting it into the spaces.

Yes I have been to Tamko many times. I assume you are talking about the one in Frederick MD. There are other Tamko plants in MO and TX, but they aren't quite as tight. Those bays were designed for a 96" wide trailer, so the 102" wides are an extremely tight fit. You usually hear people who haven't been there before mocking drivers on the CB about taking time to back in, that is until they try it themselves.

I am going to request a 387 as my first truck with my second choice being a 388 or 379 which is what I am used to driving. Th e 387's do not turn like the 379's but hav e so much more room in the sleeper and in the front. What are you in?
|
I am in a 379 as that was the only choice we could get on longhaul. I would not have taken a 387 if they paid me extra. I did train in one and while I liked the interior I hated to drive it. It took more room to turn and back than the 379's and that annoyed me.

Wish me luck this week. Still have to do my final check ride and backing into the cones.

Good luck Rob. If you have come this far you should not have any problems. You can even screw up a couple of turns on the road test without failing. Take as much time as you need to on the backing and you will be fine. Keep us informed.
