Hello...As you can see, I am new here. I am currently a student and I have been looking into companies and so far I am strongly leanning tward TMC as my choice company to go to. It is thanks to everyone on here giving any helpful information to those who ask that has helped me out. The only question that I haven't seen or heard asked about is the health/dental/vision benefits. As a mother and wife this is one of my concerns when choosing a company to work for. TMC seems to have everything I want as far as money, home time and equiptment, but can any one give me a little info on the health side of benefits from TMC??? Any information would be very helpful, I would like to make my decision soon, so I know where I am going and what to plan for. (As far as being gone for orientation and training)

The maddman has it right perhaps I can elaborate though:

The insurance package is about $30 I think for just yourself. For a family plan it is $80.50 per week. That is the family rate from just a spouse to any number of kids.

That includes Blue Cross Blue Shield, Delta Dental, and a vision insurance program. You cannot leave off the dental or vision to save a buck. I think the BCBS is a PPO plan if I remember correctly. You have Co-pay's of $10 to $15 for everything from doctor visits to prescription drugs. My wife went in for some test that the insurance covers once per year. Last year she had the test on June 13th and this year it was scheduled for June 2nd. Some insurance companies would have not paid that cost since it was only 354 days since the last one BUT our BCBS is very good and will pay as long as it is a different calendar year. Of course there are things that are not covered like gender reassignment surgery and the like.

You need to decide to add the insurance during orientation. If you miss that opportunity you will need to wait until open enrollment in May to make any changes. The only additions you can make other than in May are newborn babies.

Thank you very much for all of the information, that is very helpful...and seeing as how I am very happy with my gender- I don't have to worry about gender re-assignment and the baby factory was completely disassembled last year, I don't have to worry about babies either We are defanitely going to be deciding everything before I get to orientation--when I get to that point, if I get there.(having financial issues reguarding securing the school loan) Doing well with the training--first day on road, pretty good, made all corners, didn't hit anything---and today, first day doing backing manovers and I can do them all with very little assistance (by end of day) sorry, stressed, venting and spelling badly. I have a few question's for vetran TMC drivers. TMC was supposed to be opening a terminal in Buchanan NY. Did that ever happen? Where do they run? How much expierience is needed to secure a position in that terminal? Does TMC hire nebies that are 50 +,in good health, and retired from a previous career?

I wouldn't quite call it a terminal, but TMC has several drivers dedicated to a drywall plant in Buchanan NY. Drivers pick up a trailer loaded with drywall, strap it down, deliver it, then return empty to repeat the process.


Those dedicated drivers will take the short loads, mostly less than 150 miles. That covers all of NYC and most of New Jersey as well as Connecticut, perhaps more. I hauled out of there several times usually with loads of 200 to 250 miles which is why I assume the dedicated guys take the shorter runs.


I don't have a lot of information about that particular operation. If it is like the other dedicated operations there is a waiting list of current TMC drivers waiting to get on it. If I had to guess I would bet that you would need to work at least 6 months in line haul before being considered for a position there unless they were desperate for drivers.

Tidbit for other TMC drivers: TMC is actively searching for space to locate a full service terminal in the Harrisburg to Scranton PA corridor. This means fuel, tractor and trailer shops, and a good sized drop yard. Supposedly they want to have it in operation by the end of 2009.

Great info for another TMC Prospector here. Trying to make the decision TMC or ROEHL....

Well I had the same decision to make when I started. I chose TMC because Roehl seemed to micromanage the drivers too much. Now I admit that perhaps the people that I was getting that impression from needed to be micromanaged.

TMC has always treated me fairly. Now there were two days during the past 21 months that I have felt ignored until last. With 2800 drivers TMC can't always put me first, so I accept being put off once in a while. If you have an ego that demands that you be taken care of first before all the other people that have been waiting longer you will not have success at TMC or anywhere for that matter. TMC has gone the extra mile for me several times and forgiven my mistakes. I could not ask for a better company.

Not sure if you remember me, but we communicated a few times when I was in driver training and trying to decide which company to work for. I finished my 5 weeks with a trainer and leave for DeMoines tomorrow for my release and get assigned my own truck. I thought one would never have to back into tight spaces with these trucks but man was I ever wrong. Have you ever been to Tamco? The inside bays you have to back into are ridculously tight. You cannot get two fingers between the trailer and the wall. I have seen experienced drivers have a lot of trouble getting it into the spaces.
I am going to request a 387 as my first truck with my second choice being a 388 or 379 which is what I am used to driving. Th e 387's do not turn like the 379's but hav e so much more room in the sleeper and in the front. What are you in?
