Well I got ripped off last weekend. I was parking my truck next to a Home Depot/Pet Smart store and somebody sucked my fuel tanks dry. I had half tank when I parked on Friday night and nothing by Monday. I called my FM and I had to call the cops to file police report. The cops also said I couldn't park there anymore cause of some ordinance. They didn't give me a ticket which was cool though. Home Depot said it was ok to park there.

They called out a truck repair service with 20 gallons of fuel, total cost to TMC was $229. It also took up most of the morning to get going so I was late for my deliveries in NY, and missed getting loaded too, actually it was the start of a bad week, only had 3 drops this week so it will hurt the wallet.

So TMC said to find a new spot and get written permission this time. Its hard to do now cause I just got home and most places are closed. I will try a Lowes near me that I actually worked at years ago as a driver, have to wait till the manager is in on Monday but a manager on duty ok'd me for this weekend. Other than that I don't know where to park it. Anyone have any ideas? Theres a T/A 20 miles away I could maybe park it at but TMC doesn't like parking at truck stops I heard. I think it might be more secure.

Also any ideas who would have stolen the fuel? Another truck driver perhaps? Or someone going around and stealing fuel to re- sell at truck stops. I have heard those guys on the CB at truck stops offering 50 gallons of fuel for $30.

With cost of fuel down from last summer's highs....I would say it's not drivers siphoning the fuel.....more like crackheads and speed freaks looking for some "easy" cash....
You can get locking caps but fuel thieves have been known to use a drill to extract the fuel.

Yea i agree someone selling stuff to locals. We have these little bandits around here that carry a gas tank on the back of their truck. They got about 800 bucks of fuel off us. the local law claims they can't prove they did it. We used to park at the dollar store now we bring the truck all the way to the house cause of diesel bandits.

I suggest you get gas tanks locks for your tanks... or huge mouse traps LOL!!!

I asked TMC about the locks and they said no, I guess they consider it modifying the truck. I will try parking at the Lowe's I got permission to park it there this weekend at least and the local police said they hang out in the parking lot all the time. Even though its right down the street from where I parked before but I don't have many choices. I will see what happens and hope I don't get hit again. Honestly between dealing with this and other stuff I am going nuts.

Had some idiots one time think that I couldn't hear the fuel cap being removed while sleeping, I opened my Window and spoke to them, "who wants to dies first" or something to that effect, I ended up with a siphon hose and 5 gal gas can.

See if Lowe's has security cameras and see if you can park your truck where it's in sight of the camera . It will be for their benefit because they have trucks too . Did you think to ask if security cameras around Home Depot might have recorded something when your fuel was stolen? They also have trucks and their trucks could be hit next .

Ever think about the problems locking fuel caps would cause on abandoned truck ? There are also anti-siphoning devices that fit inside the tank .

Yeah the anti-siphoning devices are a great tool. All of the Macks where I used to work had them, it's basically just a metal basket with a bunch of holes drilled in it. It also keeps large debris from falling in the tank if for some reason you try and put your garbage or leaves in the fuel tank. They can cause the pumps to stop fueling though, when the fuel splashes back up. The TMC trucks don't have them though, and it would be against company policy to install them.
