Spoke with the Recruiter today with Transport America, I'm liking what I'm hearing.

Fred spoke to a recruiter at Southern Cal yesterday. I wish there was more info on this company. I understand that So. Cal was recently purchased by Transport America. I'm taking that the drivers must be mostly satisfied with them since there is so little information about them.

Orientation at Transport America, right now, is in Fort Wayne, Indiana. You stay at the Econolodge there. Nice hotel, swimming pool and work out area. They have two vans that are left there. You can use them to make runs to the grocery store. Hotel has a breakfast in the morning. Nothing fancy. Bagels juice and coffee.
When you arrive at orientation they send you for a physical. Agility test is moving weighted boxes using a hand truck. Back and forth. It is suppose to be like loading a truck. You have to lift a weight over your head and pull a weight. This is like pulling a king pin or adjusting your tandems. You have to do a step test for two minutes at a 120 beat pace and then sit. Your heart rate should recover. You have to stand on one foot for 30 seconds. And you have to climb a ladder. That is all I remember from it.
The drug test is a hair test. I did not pass the Sugar test so I had to come back home. They have been very good about it and I should be back there this week. They paid for car rental both ways and are paying for it again. So far my first impressions are good.
Do not eat the hotel breakfast if before you go have you sugar tested. I drank three large orange juices and had two bagels with cream cheese. Blood sugar was over 1000.

Is Transport America taking students again? I have a terminal right by me! I know about a year ago they were not taking student grads.

It is my understanding that they do not take new students. I did notice there were a few fresh grads in orienation the first time I was there. Dennis said they take a few students every once in awhile. It doesn't hurt to apply.
