They are a bad company, and for the longest all they have been ave 1500 miles, I've been driving since 1991, if your getting miles, thank God, but not everyone is getting those kinds of miles and not everyone is going to take freight that doesn't even cover fuel.

They teach and hire most of their drivers off the street, something to be said about why you can't keep veteran drivers.

    TRANSPORT AMERICA
two thumbs down, I would not recommend any new drivers seeking employment their, new drivers really need to do your homework when looking for a company to drive for, stay away from Transport America, they are a stock holder own company with one thing on there mind and that's making money. New drivers beware of Transport America! Examples: if you drive onto a shipper or receiver parking and your trailer tire touch the corner of the grass, Transport America will write it up as a preventable accident on your new CDL and this makes it tough when seeking employment with better companies, new drivers not every shipper/receiver location is made for semis but they expect you to be able to back in, some shippers and receivers are located on roads that do not allow for big trucks and you have no choice but to cross onto the grass and I'm talking maybe 1 or 2 feet. Look for a company that will work with you in getting miles, making money, and getting home.

Funny thing about an economic recession... freight slows down! Who knew?

On top of that when you reject every other load you are given because it's "not enough miles" or "i don't go further east than ohio" or "i don't go to the ne" you aren't gonna get very many miles.

The job is "truck driving". If you have a family that you want to be home to see every weekend, that is completely understandable. Unfortunately truck driving is not for you.

Have fun, Sunzee. Best company I've ever worked for. Try to get on Sarah's board. She will work like a demon for you. Just try not to turn down freight.

There is no student program right now they shut it down right now. They need experience drivers like 1 yr wonders. Yes, I worked for TA for 3yrs and I was there with the new owners took over. This is not the same company it was years ago. The new owners are in business to make money and they will fire you for any reason they can think of. 1 reason is blowing the air horn to warn that driver in front of you he is going to hit you. They terminated that team for violation of company rules and they fired another team for the same thing and they didn't do nothing.
See people I did worked in the office there for 1.5 months and see things you wouldn't beleive. Did you company drivers know that TA has black boxes in there trucks (this is a seceret and I was told to keep my mouth quite by safety or I would be fired) well I do not work their no more since I'm unemployed by them so I can talk.
I was one of the top drivers their (thats what my team leader and FM says). I never go home I'm out more than anybody and I'm a runner. I will run out of hours in 5.5 days and take a 34hr restart and do it again. I've even delvrd my loads 2 to 3 days early so I can get my next load and keep on moving down the road I hate sitting only for my 10hr or 34hr break.
Now TA put some things on my DAC/USIS and now HireRight and I got it corrected. This company just doesn't care about its employees and you better watch if they get a bug up their butts and your in their sites they will do whatever they can to make it like its your fault. Would I recommend this company to anyone?? Yes if your just starting out then after 1 yr move on to another company. They cut the layover pay from $150 to $100 to $75 now. They cut out some pay from bonuses, trip books (the ones you write your load info on) cut it in half,Ohio and Indiana turnpikes you have to go around another 3hrs extra. Cut out all the high price employees in the shop and office and cut the hrs. Reduced the speed on the trucks and made it so you have to stop to read every message and that will slow you down on, on time delvrys. And now they cut the drivers pay. I was getting .45 cpm plus hazmat pay plus bonuses equal to .47 to .51 cpm. And yes I was that high price driver but I earned it after 20yrs driving.:biggrin_2552:

Black boxes known as Qualcomms, they can tell your speed, your over speeds, your over revs, your position, what time you started driving, times you stopped driving and when you stopped for the night, miles driven today, fuel usage, idle time, time over idle. Used to check up on hours of service compliance as per FMCSA regs..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... Sarah moved on to bigger and better things. No more Sarah at TA.

There is no secret about your so-called "black boxes"... Qualcomm and similar systems are used by lots of trucking companies. I don't believe that anyone told you not to say anything about these.

Besides the company owns the truck... they have a right to monitor how it's driven in order to ensure their employees are not breaking the law. If you don't like it, drive your own truck.

If TA gives some guy they've never met the keys to a brand new $150,000 truck and trusts them to haul some customer's $1,000,000 trailer load of televisions and computers, you can be #### sure they want to keep track of it every step of the way.

I'm not even going to comment on your complaining about driver pay... two words.. economic recession. Go find a surviving trucking company that isn't cutting costs to survive and then we'll talk.

Heck find ANY company that's not cutting pay and benefits! Just be glad you have a job in this cesspool of a recession/depression!

People are losing all of their retirements, hours cut back and even WalMart is cutting hours and people! Who would have thought they would be doing that!

If you have a job keep the thing as giving it up to look for greener grass could result in you looking for a long time! And quitting a job means you do NOT get unemployment! Think long and hard before you jump!
