i dont know a thing about TA but i do know that even if a person is new at driving he should not be #### over because he is new. he still deserve to make some money driving with out just sitting. i know that a lot of season drivers get the better deals, but companies new to be able to keep newbies because sooner or later us season drivers will be gone. but it is amazing that o/o does not like to stay at a company. i don't know the deal behind it. i always felt and will feel that if a person drives the truck they should be able to og home with it. why in hell would you want to drive 75 mile extra or less just to get home when you been running all week or weeks. but to each their own. and thats my opinon rather you like it or not... i don't give a fly.

 

I went with TA back in may.I started the 5th and was done by the end of the month.It took me 2 weeks to get a trainer.Then he was on a deicated route,needless to say I wasnt learing jack except how to go over my 11 hours of drive time.The trainer was on a dedicated route for PPG.so we hauled reefers and heated trailers.He wouldnt give me any instuction on them.During the week and a half i was with him he wouldnt show me trip planning,backing,and woulnt help me understand my logs and why they were so jacked up from the way we had to run to complete the trip...He told me he was basically in it for the extra pay and hadnt had a student in 5 months..I called their student coordinator to get a different trainer that wasnt on a dedicated route and he told me know.I asked him if I was gonna get that specific route after training and he said no.So I said if I cant learn nothin then I will go somwhere else.That was the only thing he said ok to...They said they will work with you if you have problems with a trainer but they wont.

 

i recently applied there and their recruiting department seems to have their head on straight. I talked with the recruiter on friday who said that my prehire letter would be in the mail onfriday or monday at the latest! IWll they just send me a letter or a whole pack can anyone advise?

not trans am, this is transport america.

good starter company. good company period really. lots of short 300-600 mile runs.

most of the complainers on here couldn't hack it or some just had a bad experience I suppose? company was great for me.

yeah I had to sit before also... whiners don't mention they pay you a hundred a day to sit. might be more by now.

you'll get 120,000 thousand miles a year with them. granted more miles in the summer and fewer in the winter just like all of trucking. big thing is sticking it out. if you only get 2000-2200 in winter... don't whine... summer is just around the corner and you'll be pushing 3000.

of course if you work thru winter (low mile time) and vacation 2 weeks in summer (high mile time)... well then ya kinda did that to yourself.

you'll make 35-42k your first year, (365 day cycle). don't refuse loads and be a stand up guy, be ontime no matter what !!!! most loads are jit (just in time) freight and if your late it costs them money and you might sit 24-48 hours to get rescheduled to unload. do it right and the dispatchers will get to know you and it becomes a cooperative effort.

my gal phillys was fantastic. ran me all over chicago with short loads for a whole week. paid good but not my forte... next 2 weeks she asked me on a friday so where you wanna go on monday and gave me the pick of the board.

had a slow week one week and the next she gave me a bunch of trailer shags intercity. thought that sucked... then found out it was more money on a friday afternoon than I had made all week.

if your late, lazy, or a whiner it isn't for you. if you can play for the team, you get it all back, if not this week then coming up.

kinda like life...

 

Is there any terminals in St. Louis, or close to there

 

I just left Transport America of my own volition. The only reason I did was that because the fuel has gone over $4.oo a gal. they have changed some rules.
1. NO more deadhead home. You will wait for a load thru the house.
2. NO more lengthy deadhead to get a load.(this means more waiting.)
For me this was unacceptable. So, I quit.
Now, the facts.
I started in mid-july 07 and was given an 07 with 114,000 miles on it.
Very nice shape. They will install your inverter up to 1500W. I carried an actual ref. with me and a micro & coffepot. 40" wide mattress. 470hp Det.
with 10 spd. trans. They are now set # 62 on cruise and 65 on the foot.
Used to be higher. They'll pay you an extra .01 if you put the foot to 62.
I got some 350 to 500 mi. trips but I also got 800-950 mi. trips and
1200-1400 mi. trips.
Try to work with your Fleet Mgr., but if you can't they will switch you.
But only once.
I lived just over 100 mi. from my terminal. I came home with the truck
mostly with an empty.
A problem they had with me was getting me back out of the house. 75%
of the time it was a day later. They can get you home on 2 weeks but staying out 3 weeks is better.

Remember, I went on as a pro and knew the right questions to ask.
So, my rating on a scale of 1 to 10. ------------ 8.

Sounds good. Don't know about waiting for a load to get home. There is only one customer in town that I know of and that's General Mills. Sounds like I wouldn't see home much. The training program looks good.

To get home they just want to send you with a load thru the house. Also they run GM dedicated's, check on that. You would be based out of the Atlanta terminal. Good luck.

By the way, I heard that TA dumped some recuiters and other staff. Now I'm not too broken up about the recuiters, though it does make one wonder if TA is having problems.
