Be VERY careful about going to Transport America!! You can not take your truck home if you life 75 from a termanel, you may not unhook from your trailer for at all. Inorder to take your truck home, if longer than 75 miles, you must have a secured place and have it in writting. DO not trust anything the recruters tell you they will string you along. You will need to take anywhere from 1-3 driving exams, one at training to test out, if you get a new trainer one half way through, and a finel test out with the safety director. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!:smt065

I worked for them as well and they suck. My trainer left them and is now a O O with another company. You won't get miles. We sat in a rest stop in new jesery for 2 days before getting a load out they told us there was nothing going out. You see half million trucks up and down the turnpike and theres no freight in Jesery. And yes you better be able to drive like you hav 20 years or they will fail you. They give you a hazmat test even if you dont have a Hazmat. Dont fail or you go another week with the trainer. Stay clear of these guys.

Working for Transport America was a living nightmare! You know it must be bad when your trainer, whom you've only known for a few hours, asks you why you came to TA and then advises you its a bad place to work, and that you should look elsewhere. He was an owner/operator and as soon as he released me from his truck, he left the company. Their Fleet Managers/Dispatchers are referred to as "little Hitlers", their trucks are junk, they have little freight, your runs are usually no more than 300 miles, constant New Jersey and Philadelphia, and their financial status looks like dooms day! Do not even consider working for this company, you are just wasting your time. So long Transport, hope you enjoyed your own DAC REPORT!

I made the mistake of going there. I was in orientation for 3 days and caught a cold. because of that I was late and they released me. your right about their trucks being junk. funny how the school I went to had 15 year old trucks in MUCH better condition then TA`s truck were.

I went there because They were the first to call after I starting looking for a Job. Blessing in disguise I now realise. donig My homework from now on.

BTW... They treated US all like crap. They say WE ARE professionals but are NEVER treated as such or with RESPECT.

    I JUST WANT TO SAY.
these complaints are about the same thing or your not sure what your talking about, i work there.get plenty of miles.yea theres been slow places to get freight.that happens with any company.but not very often.im always on the mover.
the oldest truck is 3 yrs old.when you start youll get an older one for a few weeks to get the experience.then you get a newer truck.but there oldest is 3 yrs old. there fleet trucks.freightliner columbias. but as are most company trucks in the country.
you will run 21 days with a trainer.then you will go in for finaly testing.written and driving. there comon knowledge test questions. as for the "hazmat" even if you do not have a hazmat, yes theres several questions on it, but there questions that you have to know because of the fedral regulations. and you need to know to keep from messing up.
if at a truck stop.you cant smoke with in 25 ft of a hazmated truck.befor taking a load. look at the paper work, make sure you get somthing thats not hazmat. there not hard.
this company is a good company to run for. almost always get home when i want, witch is usualy weekends. how many companies do that.
as for taking the truck home, yea you can. as long as your 75 miles or farther from a terminal. no there is no droping te trailer. if you have the room take the truck home. or somplace that lets you park there, legealy

I'm too green to comment much personally as to how good or bad these guys are... but some of the complaints are almost hillarious...:laughing3:

I wonder at times if these guys would be happy anywhere...?

btw of the 30 at orientation, yeah, only half made it... funny thing was the ones that did make it were all in agreement we wouldn't have hired the rest to drive either.:smt023

I'm getting tired of these buck-toothed, in-bred, backwoods losers who have has to actually WORK once in thier lives. Complain, complain, complain. JEEEZUZ!

"I can't get any miles" WHAAAAA (Because you suck and you whine)

"They don't pay like they promised" WHAAAA (See above)

"They made me wear a uniform" WHAAAA (You can't wear your AC/DC t-shirt with ketchup stains from last tuesday).

"They fired me and stranded me 200 miles from home" WHAAAA
(Yeah, stupid, You were supposed to be 800 miles from home. Now you will have some time to fix your teeth, Jethro)

Of course the majority of the whiners have three things in common:

    1) Thier grammar. Can you imagine the ear-screeching, soul-sucking and mind-numbing effect this would have on a professional, by the book trainer? I'd hang myself.

    2) Thier spelling. I've tried to spell that bad. I can't do it. How do you misspell "THE". They have the brains of a chicken. After two days at an orientation where they are paying you, don't you think it's a good idea with your limited brainpower to just shut-up and work?

    3) They have always been and will always be.....WHINERS: "Here's a casket full of hundred dollar bills!!!" Yeah, but thier in a casket. Whaaa

    I feel better now,

    Handsome Dave

I have to agree with you. How long have these whiney ### truckers been driving? They think they should got prime loads, brand new trucks, pay rate of a seasoned trucker, weekends off, and all they do is whine and complain. My Dad worked for Transport America for 13 1/2yrs, he started out OTR, then he went to city cartage & took the new drivers out for their saftey tests, then he went to a designated run. Never had any problems with getting home or getting loads. But then of course he didn't whine, he took what they gave him, and ran hard. Paid off when they gave him a brand new Peterbuilt 389, and made him #2 driver out of his terminal. Now 14yrs later a good friend of mine drives for TA, he went in the terminal one Day and was talking to the terminal manager. He told her that he knew a former driver, she asked him who it was and when he told her, she remembered and Dad and had told my friend that they were just talking about my Dad a few days before. And they say TA is a bad company. Dure kept us kids comfortably spoiled for many years.:msmile:

Transport America is a good company. We have found that if you are like some of the new drivers who whine and complain about everything or get smart mouthed with a dispatcher/fleet manager , well you may find yourself stuck in some god awful place running short trips within that city...lol..happened to a friend of mine... of course he is one of those whiney drivers. He spent a day in Dallas, TX dropping loads within a 12 mile radius of the Dallas terminal. What TA terminal is near you? Some terminals are better than others as far as what the have to offer the drivers. Good Luck
