Hey all. OK I know first off I'll get the responses saying how terrible TA is, and don't go there, blah blah blah, but I'm a positive person and tend to subscribe to the belief that positive people can have positive experiences where negative people have had negative experiences, so I'm going in with an open mind. After all, I've been thru the Werner system and had a good experience there (minus the part about no trucks at end of training). So, to all you fellow positive people out there, have any of you recently completed orientation in Eagan? They'd like me to start next week. How was orientation? How was your training? How long was your training? Do trucks have APUs or other creature comforts? I know I'd probably get a washed up Columbia but I'm just looking for valuable industry experience, so I'd take whatever went down the road. Anyhow, just seeking some current responses, there seems to be a lack of current info on the forums. Thanks all in advance. Oh, and if anyone is gonna reply to say I'm wasting my time, then save yours and don't hit reply. :biggrin_255:

Hey AdamT2k! I don't know a #### thing about Transport America. Just thought I'd welcome you to the forum. I believe you'll get the responses you're looking PLUS some that you're not! Stay positive, focused, and open-minded and you'll do just fine! Good luck!

well adam as with any company there is good and bad. right now the miles are down but you'll have that with most companies. I will warn and advise you however use no words that can be construed as profanity over the qual comm they have a zero tolerance policy leann taylor is one of the fleet mangrs there avoid her like the plague the good they have a drivers review board so you can appeal anything you think is unfair also most of the safety guys are ex drivers wish i could say the same for the planners who also unfortunately are clueless the trucks are governed at 59.5 mph so dont expect to get anywhere fast so there ya have it the equipment is pretty good oreintation was okay i went that in sellerburg indiana good group of guys what else pay was 450 for oreintation but its split 225 at the end and 225 after 90 days still a good deal if you go all i can say is good luck

Thanks whiskey for the info. The recruiter called me this morning and we went over all the specifics, sounds like a pretty good deal. They want me to start Monday. He said Orientation would be done here at Eagan, last a day and a half, and then I'd be assigned a truck from there. Talk about fast-track. I told him I'd sleep on it one night, and get back to him in the morning. Then, literally 2 hours after I talked with him, I got a call back from a different company which was actually my first choice. They just had 2 trucks open up and I was at the top of his list, so I jumped at the opportunity and start with them on the 25th after taking a week off to prepare. So, Transport America, thanks but no thanks.

I'm headed to Fargo on the 24th for orientation with Magnum Ltd. A small (relatively) carrier with 175 tractors.

Worked for them for 1 month out of CDl school, there Orientation i found useful, made what my school taught stick better.

However, it was almost liek they were annoyed i was working for them, even though i really didn't do anythign wrong.

Also "Trans Am" is a refrigerated carrier that has nothign to do with "Transport America", "Transport America" used to be "Robert Hansen Trucking" they are a general carrier.

I will warn you if you have a health problem of any type at all they will find it at your physical, The one nurse checking for a hernia grabbed my package like she was taking it with her!!

You duck walk across a room, a three minute stress test up and down stairs to a metronome, in addition to all the normal test liek liftign weights and moving them around etc. There is NO "Step Ladder test" you know step up on the secodn rung deal, they just pull up an actual trailer and have you climb into it and stand up using three points of contact.

At my orientation there one dude went into tachycardia during the stress test and still wasn't out of the hospital when we left Scottsburg Indiana a week later!!!

The orientation practice pad will be actaully manuevering between real objects as in trailers and 55 gallon drums, not cones you can get out and just set back up, appreciated the real world type training bulinding on my schools cones!!

I can't fault the company for my failure to fit in there, I just crapped out with the trainers they had and by the time i had one that cared to teach and not just cuss at you for no reason then it was to late and i was too far behind in the subjects the first guy was supposed to teach me and didn't to to make it up in the remaining time allowed for me to complete training on time and the company would not extend my time so i could make it up. I understand because thats money out of their pocket.
