As if you guys don't have enough to do -- would you consider adding a section to the site (outside of the forums) for owners to track and share fuel mileage? I've used Fuelly.com (not really meant for trucks) and currently use mygauges.com, but I'd rather my data be here with folks I trust. KR hasn't displayed the highest level of ethics and, unlike fuelly, you can't export your data from mygauges so if he decides to shut down his website, your numbers are lost...

I have seen this topic come up in the garage area. Not really that many people that are into the #'s to create a following. Mostly it has been people that have been following a "Mr. Haney" whom has helped reprogram their onbard ICU (?). Then its a boasting of how much better their truck runs and thanx to him for the help. Otherwise use the search, there are a few threads out there on the subject. You may havee to go into the subsection of the garage for your flavor of the truck you drive to get any other pointers. There have been quite a few people whom have been messing with their EGR valves to improve the performance. Yet where you are in California it would be illegal for you to tamper with it as I know you are required in Commiefornia to get an emmision test to get the next registration.

Making an app that works as well as FuelGauges (a relatively simple app) is going to cost an absolute minimum of $30,000 just for an iOS (iphones) version. Add at least $20,000 to convert it to Android. We're already at $50,000 upfront cost, and we haven't even discussed ongoing costs of hosting, customer support, bug fixes, and updates for compatibility with future Android/iOS versions.
Now we get to the big problem: KR doesn't even charge for FuelGauges. He loses money on it as a promotion for his actual money maker, ProfitGauges. There may be a bunch of people who don't like KR, but not many dislike him enough to pay $10/month / $120/year to use an app they can otherwise get for free.
If we go after ProfitGauges, I think we'd spend an absolute minimum of $200,000 to build a competitor over the next 6-12 months. It could easily balloon to cost twice as much.
Even if the money to do all of this appeared out of thin air, the time commitment is immense. TruckersReport is already a 7 days a week commitment, I don't know where the necessary time would come from.MACK E-6, tucker, lovesthedrive and 1 other person Thank this. -
Grin hire more mods.
Oh wait, you got them for free at the local "Mod slavers R uS"
Silly me -

But then I realized how understanding and forgiving the Admins truly are for new mods, in the event they mess up, hit the wrong button, and make a mistake.
Just a hypothetical example, but I'm sure if a new mod accidentally hit the ban button on a 'random' user... or even two....tucker, lovesthedrive, truckon and 1 other person Thank this. -
Pay BHW six figures to get things done....
MJ1657 Thanks this. -
I am sure she would like that. Yet why stop with BHW? There are plenty of other good mods here. Alas they will remain nameless as I dont want to ruffle any feathers by forgetting anyone.
