Rebel used to sell polish in Effingham, "you wipe it on you wipe it off and jump back and go wow!, look at that shine!" next to Peterbilt, but I don't think they came down on him for it, cuz you can still buy his polish at Peterbilt for 20 or 25 a bottle.

their still selling it at the truck-o-mat in effingham

I know this thread is old, but thanks to a Google search I avoided "one of the oldest scams in the book" Same truck stop (Pilot in E St Louis) and same guy. Just wanted to say thanks. Oh, and I found a great forum to join in the process!
Big Don Thanks this. -
those guys that sell their own polish is a mixture of charcoal lighter fluid and green rouge, sometimes white. The bottle that he uses to sell you on his product is full of rouge, the bottle he sells you mostly lighter fluid, and rubbing alcohol/witch hazel.

I've got "scammed" by the polish guys too... but in a totally different way.
I once worked for a very specialized label printing company. We had a new sales rep who just couldn't say "no" to anyone and always got the calls nobody wanted. One time she got a call from someone claiming to be a local truck detailer wanting 5,000 bottle labels for a "special formula" aluminum polish they were selling. We didn't do anywhere near that type of printing... but she begged and begged for me to run it. She extended them credit based on their word and... of course... they disappeared and never paid. So some polish scammer out there has probably 20 years worth of free labels to keep them in business for a VERY long time
