Things to do on a layover.

Being on the road can be lonely and can be exciting. What do you do on a reset? Do you take in the local sites?

Post what and where there are things to do on the road that others might be interested in.

The first one I thought of is the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville. $7 admission and very close to downtown. They have a collection of over 300 unique cars and motorcycles.

If you're in San Antonio go to the Alamo. if ya know you are gonna need a reset when you are going thru a state, stop at a rest area and get some info on what to do in the state or a particular city. Me personally when I'm doing a reset or a "layover" I'm sleeping, and if I'm lucky maybe I have a friend tat lives near by that I can do lunch with or just get away from the truck for a while. Other than that SLEEP for me

I was in San Antonio Friday night. Got to see my sister a week before she reaches the half century mark.

Took my reset in Hobbs, NM of all places.

I am in San Antonio weekly now, makes me sad. On my layovers I feed cats, ##### at my car, and put in applications for a new Camaro.... course my layovers are at home now.

Drink beer.....Okay, seriously if you find yourself in the Daytona Florida area with some time to burn, drive you rig right into the Daytona international speedway parking lot (my sig pic was taken there) and take the track tour. It costs about $25 and they shuttle you thru turn 4 then 3 then the area behind the straightaway, then back around turns 3 & 4 on the apron, across the finish line and into victory lane. Well worth the time and money and ya only really need about 2 hours to do this. I've never parked overnight there in the parking lot, but day use has never been a problem and I've done this a few times.

When I was OTR and stuck somewhere, I would look online for any Naval museums in the area. The "floating museums" are awesome! I have visited 7 different ships and boats in my travels. That lifestyle fascinates me. And I get a lot of neat pictures for my kids. It also makes my appreciation of the servicemen and women of this country much greater!
USS TEXAS near Houston, USS NORTH CAROLINA near Wilmington, USS NEW JERSEY near Camden, USS COD near Cleveland, Buffalo Naval park in Buffalo has 2 ships and a submarine, Battleship Cove near Providence RI are just a few places off the top of my head.
the only thing that kinda sucks is with the introduction of EOBRs, this short side trips are going to be more difficult to make! We seem to be getting chained to wherever we can get parking. The rules are making it almost illegal to use the truck, even if you own it, to use it for sightseeing. That ain't right! It's my reset, I'm not driving for compensation. I just want to see anything other than a nasty a55 truckstop!!!

Go running! I use to go run for about 45 minutes to an hour anytime I would stop for my 10 hour or a 34 hour reset. I would excercise after that for about another 30 minutes

Glad you enjoyed doing that. It shows that some drivers do take their fitness seriously.

Me? Exercise is against my religion!

I drove under the old rules, so we didn't have the 34 hour reset. Didn't have much sit time either. Definitely used my hours!
