Yeah I know what kind you're talking about (the inflatable camping mattress). Those just for whatever reason though, don't do the trick for me. I can't sleep very well on them. Thanks anyway though!

What ever matress you do decide on, do get some memory foam to put on top of it. Makes a world of difference in how it feels.

Yeah I have a memory foam mattress at home. It is pretty nice, but if I had to settle for just a plain old mattress with springs, that would do just fine too for a little while at least.

Due to health reasons most companies will replace a mattress. BUT if you are so intent on your OWN mattress then have one made by any Mattress company! Sealy, Denver and the others will make one to your specs! Just measure the "tray" in the bunk and send it to them OR go to their plant, Denver Mattress is just East of Denver Someone will let you know. I actually picked up a load there one day and a driver walked up , handed the guy on the dock a sheet of paper and the foreman took him to the office and several hours later he had a special made pillow top for his truck! I did mine through the Sealy plant out side of Jacksonville years ago! If I ever get back into a truck I'll do Denver as my mattress here is a Denver and I love the thing!

BUT: Do not get a mattress while training! The top bunk of Freightliners is smaller than the bottom bunk and the "mattress" can be the two piece design and made of nice plastic covered blocks of some hard foam or some stupid pillow thing thats about as good as sleeping on two folded up blankets! The same with most other Truck brands! If it so grosses you out, then when you get to your company measure the top bunk or look on the tag, then go to Walley's Place, Target, K-Mart, or a sporting goods or Military surplus store and buy a flat sleeping bag that will fit over most of the bunk! OR go to a fabric store and buy a large enough piece of blanket, linen or canvas that will cover the bunk and be tucked around the mattress then stop at a Walmart in a college town and get a set of sheet garters to help hold the cover on the mattress OR (again) buy a regular mattress cover!

But I would really wait untill you have your own truck and first check with the shop and get a new mattress or go to a dealer and take the last 8 or 6 of the VIN in and they will be glad to sell you an overpriced truck mattress for that truck! Trust me when I say you can get one made through regular mattress places cheaper than dealers, Iowa 80, or any truck stop and they will be so much better!

The ONLY things you BUY from a truck stop is coffee, fuel, cooked food, showers if you don't have a 'freebie" and CB equipment! Oh truck accessories and chrome! Everything else you buy from a big box store! Wally, Target, Kmart, grocery or Dollar stores as truck stops are way to expensive! The things I mentioned above are the ONLY things I buy at stops and thats been my norm for the past 10 years! Why throw money away! And I don't even buy coffee at stops anymore as I make my own and it's better! You'll see the difference in prices after your first time in a truck stop! Let them sell to the tourists and 4 wheelers!

Now you have another tiny problem you haven't thought of.
While training and you get to the stage where it becomes a "team" truck where one sleeps and the other drives where do you think you will be sleeping? Well yes you can sleep on the top bunk as they have the safety harness but the "motion" being that high in the trusk can keep you awake, make you a little sea sick from the swaying and the thought of being in the top bunk if that truck by chance rollsover isn't where I want to be!Most students and team members "hot bunk!" Navy guys know the meaning! Thats why that flat sleeping bag is nice. It will cover your trainers bunk and you can sleep better down lower. I don't do teams as I tried training years ago and found sleeping while moving I kept sitting up in bed and slamming on the brakes! they never worked! I gave up training and no one has a big enough gun to make me team or a big enough wallet for that matter!

    Good Luck

Are you going to put tires on it out of your own pocket? How about replacing the driver's seat if it breaks? Or the windshield when it pits?

The mattress is a part of the truck. The company owns the truck. THEY should be the ones who furnish the mattress.

That being said, if the one they furnish is not satisfactory, then you may need to do something else. But don't just ask to put your own mattress in, make them do it.

And it isn't just mattresses. Don't think that because you are driving their tractor, that you need to buy stuff for it. Save that for when you go O/O and have your own truck.

Yes, you need to be willing to furnish your personal stuff, but there is a place to draw the line. Want to put those fancy chrome pointed lug nuts on the wheels? For heaven's sake forget it. It is a COMPANY truck.

Take care of it, and drive it like it is your own, because it makes you money. And that is the name of the game. MONEY. Don't spend your money unnecessarily, it is to ###### hard to come by.

Hey Big Don, you know how it is! They are told average of 3200 miles a week and at some insane CPM Pay and they do the "math" and man that's MONEY and before they see their first paycheck it's already burning a hole in their pocket!

Yeah let the company put the mattress in there on their own dime! Now I'll tell you that some of these BFI's are CHEAP! They will put that big slab of foam rubber in a sack in the truck and tell you it's a great mattress! ROFLMFAO! They can take that POS and sleep on it themselves and give me an inner spring please! If not then go spend your money!

Just did a pick up for them last week..the factory is actually visible from I70, and there is a retail store there as well.

Here from their website is an actual mattress called "Truck Sleeper Mattress": http://www.furniturerow.com/DenverMattressCo/ItemType/Truck%20Sleeper/ Kind of pricey though..
I know my company will replace the mattress for you on request. I'm in my second truck, and both times requested it, and it was put in for me, with the plastic still wrapped around it....
