Anyone ever think of opening their own truck stop?

After putting up with the usual nonsense at T/A, Pilot, FJ et al. Anyone ever think about what they would WANT at a truckstop and what they'd put in?

Like a line of porta-johns at the BACK side of the lot? A strict, pull off the fuel island after fueling policy? Cashiers that understand customer turnover, and appreciate we're on a tight schedual? Edible food?:biggrin_25523:

If you hung up your driving shoes, how would you run your "Dream Truckhaven"

(who knows, we might just come out to see ya!)

I'd need WAY TOO much money to start the truck stop I'd run:yes2557:

I agree Nik. And frankly, I'm not sure a new independent has much chance. Drivers want their points and want to use them all over the U.S. And I would want to limit the 4 wheeler traffic and that keeps a lot of the chains alive. Plus, I'd have to hire Judi Kay to supervise the cleaning of showers and Bonnie to run the kitchen and that would cost me a fortune.

All you need is a shuttle bus.
Take them from the truck stops to nice places in town for 10 bucks a head. Run a route every half hour 12 hours a day.

you wouldn't be able to enforce half that stuff, let alone all of it, as you'd lose customers real quick. in order TO ENFORCE those things, you'd need REAL POLICE on site, NOT rent-a-cops.......

then too, it would take tens of millions of dollars, EPA permits, location, state permits, etc,etc.....wouldn't be worth my time or my money (if i had that kind of money, i'd be living on a tropical island, and wouldn't give a flip about the trucking industry what so ever)......

unfortunately the legal hassles of starting a truckstop, zoning, permits, EPA rules, would be enough to discourage just about any normal mortal individual, and the cost to comply with all of this stuff, and then build and pave must be huge. I've been entertained/discouraged by all the BS Pilot has to go thru since they bought and remodeled Johnnys in NJ.
