NOBELS CLOSED?, #### thats it partys over all go home, calumet in the day was interesting, jacks truckstop on i65 in the day was the place to be in central bama, cant remember the name in ok city but only one there in the late 70s seen what was left of brain matter splatterd on a windshield after being shot inside a truck cab from behind, those days and places seem 100 yrs ago, big cbs and 2-3 log books depending on what day and where you was at that time, wakeing up over the steering wheel on the off ramp because of the heat, trading stuff to get fuel to keep going, kerosene heaters in the trailer before theyd load apples.
this is for the old timer's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For sure one of the worst I can remember is the Walt Whitman truck stop in Philly, nasty doesn't even begin to describe it. Another one close tonthat would be the I-70 Truck Stop in Frederick, Md. off of I-70 like exit 54, there is a Costco's store there now, used to have a run down motel with it and I think the truck stop had the old drivers sleeping quarters in it, believe it closed in like 2001. Nasty place all around but they did have some good food.

Maybe missed it but the Boise stage stop. they still have that sign, truck drivers come first. Some one mentioned Buckeye lake. the old duke travel Plaza with the hotel and bar next door. yep, closed in 2012. the owner /manager would give you the shirt off his back and if hungry and no money he would take care of you. Just ask if you mind helping out and work 1 or 2 hours

Frederick 76 MM 54 I-70. I think it was a franchisee. But it was a powerful truckstop for the area. A good place to have one. Costco bought the whole thing, dug down a few feet to remove the hazmat topsoil and then built a big box plumb dab on it.
Cross Keys PA, a small one. There is not much left of that area the last time I stayed there was a McDees with a access common road which was destined to be more service type businesses in the future.
Spanglers Spring PA, US 15 north of Gettysburg. Ships much apple in that region. The eatery closed up after it went bust for whatever reason. There is no longer any point to stop there after because the food was good back in the day.
Opal VA, US 15. At I think US 17. That was probably torn down and replaced with a modern fast food type situation.
Searcy AR, MM 42, a tiny stop at the end of the ramp, it was not much but the food was memorable. It's a gas filling station for natural gas vehicles now direct from the local gas wells.
Amesbury MA North of Boston, saloon, dance floor, hotel etc the whole 9 yards. Burned. Gas fires still burn on the property for pressure relief purposes.
Foxboro Truckstop, US 1 Mass, torn down and replaced with a bigger more modern construction. I think they were doing well.
Scranton PA, there was a little one south and west of there It may still be there, but that big Petro they plopped on a mountain after trucking in additional mountain to build it on... such hubris.
A small diner not far from Syracuse NY on I think 81 south. Burned.
Im still hunting for a small stop that might have room for 6 trucks about a hour south of Troy PA on the US 6 road. Not too certain anymore because they removed three large old pratt truss bridges in a farm valley that I used as a land marker to slow down from dollar speeds coming up on this little one southbound. Maybe the little Steamboat at the US 15 interchange ramp got bigger by now. As perhaps the Summit above (Below) Williamsport PA
I can work my way across the USA but I rather not. It's a time that was once. And never will be again.John E., Blue jeans, 650cat425 and 1 other person Thank this. -
