I had a guy to approach me at the Flying J in Knoxville, TN several years ago. He had a nice 9mm chrome plated pistol he wanted to sell me. He said that he had a matching pair and had the permission of the manager to sell it on the property. Of course, he wanted me to pay him for both while he went on the other side of the building to get the other gun and wanted me to pay in advance. I told him he should just bring them over to me and I would pay him. I would not give him any money before having the guns in hand. Needless to say he disappeared as I was walking into the J. I spoke with the manager and he knew nothing about it. I wasn't surprised. I would be apprehensive about buying any sort of gun from someone who approached me at a truck stop, even if he had it in hand. It would probably be hot.

Did you touch it with your bare hands? Maybe he needed an extra set of fingerprints on it for "legal reasons". Was he wearing gloves?

No, he wasn't wearing gloves. You may have been right about the fingerprints.

The first BS clue was "I have the manager's permission." You are lucky he didn't have it loaded.

So, you target trucks, and then steal things off them? But then have a quote in your signature block about talking like a loser, or being a winner?

That is what really got my suspicion up. There were some other clues. It really didn't feel right from the beginning. Most of the time I would not buy anything that someone is selling at a truck stop. I assume that it is stolen. Some drivers sell their equipment. Other people think they can get a few bucks from a driver who sees that he can get something for nothing.

Buying a gun off of anyone on the street, be it at the truckstop, the street corner,or in the mall is asking for major trouble. If it was a legitimate weapon, why would they need to sell it on the street? They could get decent money from a gun store or pawn shop.

I'd never consider buying a gun, wtahc, tools, etc from anyone at a truckstop... not worth thr "posession of stolen property" charge that comes with it.

I have seen drivers dump their entire paycheck into those games. Unbelievable!!!

Some of these people hang out at truck stops and pretend to be drivers that have been fired or down on their luck. I have helped some over the years, but for the most part I no longer dig into my pocket. Most of the time it is a scam. If I feel that someone is really in need or hungry I will buy them a meal, but won't give money. I have bought gas and even filled up someone's car once who said they were stranded. If these people spend as much time working as they do scamming they would be much better off.
