I've got a full charter bus (56 people) heading to NYC soon and am trying to find a good, clean place to stop at for people to get cleaned up and grab breakfast. I'm hoping to find one that is only about an hour or two outside of NYC (we'll be coming from the Hagerstown, MD area).

The TA in Bloomsbury seemed to be the best for the amenities we'll need but I've not seen anything favorable about it here. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That's probably the closest truckstop, you could detour a bit and hit the Vince Lombardi service plaza on the NJTP.

The T/A at exit 7 in nj off 78 has an iron skillet restaurant thats about 2 hours from nyc. There's also a truck stop at exit 3 in nj off 78 that has a pretty good restaurant. The pilot at the 12 off 78 in nj doesn't have a restaurant just a subway.

Yes, thanks to Pilot buying Johnnie's a few years back and replaceing what once was a good place to eat with a wortless, over-priced Subway!:biggrin_25516:

As for the T/A, I have seen many tour buses use them as a last stop before the city.

It's almost back to Hagerstown, but on 78 in PA at exit 10 is an old school mom and pop place converted to a Pilot, and a Love's at exit 23.

There's also a Pilot in NJ at exit 12/13, just down from Bloomsbury.

Thanks for the responses so far!

Jellybean, do you know if those restaurants are 24 hours? I forgot to mention earlier that it'll be abour 4:30 in the morning (if we stop near Bloomsbury).

The only other one I know of is the restaurant at the Pilot at exit 10, but it's fairly small... small/medium convenience store, though.

If you are looking just to eat well and clean up (use restrooms) Starlite Diner exit 49A off 78--Route 100 south--more than enough room for buses they are there all the time--good food--might want to call ahead--years ago(before remodeled and sold was a very big truck hang out--all nite--but)

Clinton truckstop is closer, but it's nof much more than a dirt lot, fuel pumps and a little coffee pot.

I've stayed at Bloomsbury many times. With the Pilots always being full, it gets so overcrowded. Be sure to pick a parking spot where you will nit get blocked in. Also, while it is pay to park, I find that half the time the gates are open and you can just roll on out.

There's nothing really wrong with Bloomsbury as far as charter busses go. It's just kinda a crappy stop for trucks (poor parking, high prices, always packed) At 4:30 am the fast food places WILL be closed and the Iron Skillet might be down for cleaning (they couldn't even make a cup of coffee for us at 3am once. WTF?)

Personally as far a bus charter goes, you'd be better served by the Pilot at x13 in NJ. It's practically new, it DOES have a Subway and convienence store. Both should be open at 4am.

Off of 49 in PA is the aformentioned Starlight diner. (pretty good) and a Wawa with truck parking. (they're pretty used to high volume there)

Slightly closer to the Apple if you get off 78 at Newark and take Rt. 1 South past the Airport there's a 24/7 dinner attached to a bar/stripclub called Lookers. I forget the name of the actually dinner but the sign for Lookers was there last time I went though there. Anyway, don't worry about the stripclub, it's either out of buisness or closed at 4am. A lot of off duty limo/taxi's go there for breakfast comming out of the airport. But a bus load may swamp the small morning staff.

    Hope any of this helps.
