I must preface with this... I have little to complain about in life. Job is going well.. enjoying seeing the country and bumping into new people every day...

BUT... I haven't been in a shower at a Pilot that has been pre-cleaned properly in weeks.

I'm a new driver... only been out here for about a month. Maybe 5 weeks. My first shower at a Flying J was immaculate, but been at nothing but Pilots since.

    Anyone else having this issue?

I keep finding really long hairs in the showers and unmentionables in the toilets... sometimes just a hint, sometimes a full-on fudge dragon.

Of course, I politely say something every time, but what gives? I see the cleaning crew go in and out...

Other than that, the places are nice. The showers and restrooms usually at least smell decent, but you can tell someone else recently abused the scene before my trip in.

Funniest part... they actually have a voting poll for cleanest shower nation wide... I hope they improve their work ethic first!

I have yet to vote in that poll, because T/A locations aren't on the list.

I've never run into an unflushed commode, but substandard cleanliness keeps me away from some Pilot's all together.

yeah... now that I think about it. TA was the clean shower I took... I wish I could always stop at one! The stores are nicer, in my opinion and the crews at least pretend they don't hate their jobs...

There's just something nice about seeing a smiling face on the other side of a counter at a TA when I pick up drinks and whatnot.

They've also done some major remodeling on many of their locations. Pilot and the J just have to catch up. We'll see if that happens.

I have seen a major DECLINE in the conditions of most truckstop bathrooms and showers over the last couple of years. With the economy in the tank and staff being reduced... cleaning is at the bottom of the list. Pilots/FlyingJ have got to be the worst. Plus our fellow drivers are not helping... at least 3 times a week while I'm sitting doing my business, someone will enter a stoll and pee all over the seat, wall, floor and leave. MOST don't even flush.

And drivers wonder why shippers/receivers won't let them use the restroom.

Thing is is that they really dont have to catch up and they know it. Pilot has so many companies locked into fuel contracts at this point that they have a huge huge customer base of company drivers that dont have much choice but to use Pilots.Sure you can go pay for your showers at other places but most drivers are not gonna drop $40-$50 bucks a week taking showers elsewhere when they get them for free there and the Pilot corporatiton knows this. Thousands upon thousands of company drivers are stuck with having to use Pilot. They know they have gauranteed business without having to really do anything to please anyone. Its this way with the food, this way with showers at a lot of their locations, its this way with the pitiful layouts of a lot of their parking lots and now they are turning all of the Flying J's into the exact same cookie cutter Subway factories.Dont expect their ways to change anytime soon. Some locations are betetr than others but the basic fact is that they dont really care. They have business no matter what.

I use to work at a truck stop before I became a drive and when I cleaned the showers I always made sure they were clean because it made for a happy driver

While I applaud lil may for her work ethic, I think a lot of people forget that these folks have a job CLEANING UP AFTER TRUCK DRIVERS.... and I certainly can't expect someone to be excited about clocking in and getting started.

Same caliber of folks who work in convenience stores, fast food places, etc... and I've noticed that there are 2 kinds of people in those places - best case scenario is someone needing a flexible schedule to attend school or a training course, or to work around their spouse's schedule and juggle the kidlets.

Worst case is someone who simply isn't qualified to do anything else, hates life, and doesn't give two rat's butts if you "have a great showering experience".

Usually, the people with a good work ethic end up managing the place or at least running a register, NOT cleaning the showers.

There must be some kind of spiff/incentive program involved with this "cleanest showers" contest... but unless I'm promised a thousand bucks, I'm not going to be polishing any toilet paper spindles to make sure I get the best points in the contest.

:biggrin_2554:This what i noticed, but when i traveled the southern states, i noticed the more truckstops tend too macth the parking lot, filthy, now when i go up northwest area there cleaner, the northeast is the worst, southern ca wasnt too bad, but i guess like anything else , there's gonna be clean ones and there' gonna be bad ones, depends on the time of day,and how busy they are, i never showerd in wallcott ta, but i leaned on the rail and sorta timed her by my wacth, she was in there good 23 mins washing it down , then left a mint and card, wow, i peeked in as i walked by it was shiny and clean and smeeled nice, but for me i like the the T/A the best, plenty room in shower, the one i went too had the shower control on the outside wall ,so you didnt have too go inside, to adjust the water temp, and the automatic caller id was nice too, so even tho my company only use pilot , i pretty much use the T/A , there no law anywere that say's you can use one shower, then if i'm somewere and take some were 6-9 hour's too unload i get my permission and just grab a motel for a night, everyboby think there spendy, yes there are, but if figure it out at one night out lets say 4 week's, it's really nice too get out that truck for a night and just relaxe in a hot tub.:yes2557:
