Are the 'StayFit' rooms like little gyms? I couldn't find any pictures online, just a list of locations on the Petro and TA sites. They also say there are walking and running trails too. I've been out of trucking for a few years and preparing to possibly return so I just wanted to find out if these are for real. I remember several years ago they started a gym chain (Rolling Strong?) but I think it went out of business.

Most of them I have seen are an elliptical, an exercise bike, and a treadmill. Some of them have a power tower as well, but I haven't seen any free weights (major lawsuit liability even if they do claim "at your own risk").

Plus, to really get the benefit of free weights, you need to use them regularly. You need to be working out at least 3 times a week. Best to devise your own workout regimen. Then if you come upon a weight room, all the better.

Good point. I carry a mat, a dumbbell, and a resistance rubber band thingy. So between that and going to the gym on the weekends and every now and then when feasible hit up a YMCA or gold's or whatever's in the vicinity within reason.

I'm not crazy about their walking trails, either. All the ones I've seen, it's just a Google Earth picture where they mark out a loop in red. Often times, that loop is down the shoulder of a road. I've seen a couple where they route you down a sidewalk, but it still seems kind fo silly. I could have found that sidewalk without their help.

I'm not complaining about the fitness centers. They are nice to have on a rainy day or in a bad neighborhood. But I've never been the gym rat type, anyway. I prefer to be outside. So even when I'm at a location with the fitness center, I rarely use it.

Do you guys use the dumbells and resistance stuff inside the cab? What about getting all sweaty? I bought a great weighted jump rope once but was always too afraid to use it. It seems like if you stick out from the crowd and were to jump rope at the truck stop or at a rest area, other drivers would go nuts on the CB and someone might even cut your tires or do something crazy.

..and on some, it's on a road where you'd stand the risk of getting hit by a car while walking on the shoulder. I'm looking at you, TA Harborcreek and Effingham Petro!

I've looked at a few of the walking trails to see if it's an actual trail or just follow this road to this road to this road and it's a mile. Most times I look at the route and think "no way in he** I'm walking that". Not because it's not healthy, but because I don't want to end up missing.

When a shower isn't available, wash up with water or baby wipes in the truck. And yes, some drivers will stare at you (try being female-it's even worse) but big deal. Let them stare. I don't understand why you think another driver would cut your tires while you are jumping rope, but if it worries you, do it next to your truck.

Besides, just think how "they" will laugh at you if you are waddling across the lot with your belly hanging down to your knees barely able to breathe.

Some people worry way too much about what other people think. Just do your thing and to he'll with them.
