As far as the oasis parking in chicago, you know, or at least you should know, sometimes, no matter how good you are at planning, you can get stuck at those shippers or consignees a lot longer than you expected, then run out of hours and only have the choice of parking there, if you are to keep it legal. It seems to me, if you only want to stop and get something to eat or such, if you have the time, then you should keep going to you reach the wi. line or wherever to get something. I've been to a lot of places that I would have liked to have stopped at , but couldn't. I didn't cry about it though. Chill

Interestingly, the Oasis has a 2 hour limit for car parking. They should make it 2 hours for all. Those places are not campgrounds...

Worst place would have to be jessup md or the only truckstop in toad island.
Bought fuel at TA jessup and spent 17 dollars eating prick at the booth said it wasn't enough.
I cut my truck off at booth to leave and went inside and spent another 5 dollars in store.
I called the road king toll free number and the jessup manager was appolizing and told me next time to get him.
Now toad island is just a rip off, their sign lead me beleive I could park free if I filled up which I did. My truck only has a 40 gal tank.
I also ate in their resturant and paid to bathe in oily feeling water. Then this toad islander there wanted me to pay 10.00 to park?
I explained sign and way I took it's meaning. I went ahead and paid after realizing TI is full of idiot's.
Now when I go through and stop I park at island to go to rest room tell them my company said there not on the fueling list, park out front as long as I can free and leave.
You ate a prick? Seriously......Just funning with you driver...I know what you meant.....I think?

Yes they do, But, if you're out of time, and you get in a wreck, even if it's not your fault, the first thing the dot is gonna do is check your logs, and if you're over, you've had it. I don't want to have to stay there at the Oasis, but I did have to one time. And It wasn't from bad planning, it was from the consignee not being on time. And there isn't that much room at those places anyway, like the DES PLAINES OASIS, so get on down the road.

    Whine and cry about it.

The car time limit is during the day to keep people from free parking and commutiing. They say nothing about nights.

What about the service plazas on the Ohio Turnpike?

    What about a rest area?

Next thing you will complain about is that you need a reserved spot.

The service plazas on the Ohio pike (especially those nice new ones) have MUCH bigger parking lots. Apples and Oranges. They even have free showers for the drivers.

Not any difference in the purpose.

Been a while, sorry! I just had an experience here at The I-83 truck stop here in York,Pa. I had dinner here in the restaurant, I did not spend a lot of money, as we don't have a lot to start with. I was just about to turn in, a long day, and had a guy knocking on my door looking for money for parking. The amount he was looking for was 10.00,not a lot, but the idea is that I spent money here already and was not 10.00. He said I had to leave,or pay him 10.00 to give me a parking permit, I don't carry cash, told him so, he said I had to get it up at the store up the road at the ATM. Hire money to give him so I could park, after already doing business here. They are closed, no ATM here, was going to eat breakfast here, now reconsidering.
There are no signs on the door, by the cash register, or anywhere else except a poorly displayed one on the back of the building. I was here many months ago, it was paid parking unless you did business, no problem, signs on the door, and notices by the cashier. None in either place, like I mentioned now. I figured they stopped charging, I know, should have asked, my mistake. He told me if I did not pay, he would call a tow truck and the cops. Fine, I was so happy to hear that. He was told that if he did, HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXPENSES. I did not authorize such an action, and neither did my company. I had run out of time by that time,so no time to go elsewhere.
What I'm getting at,is the fact they should have signed the place good enough to let someone know at the entrance, and by the cashier. It was before. I had shown him a reciept from dinner, it was for a little over 7.00, He said it was not enough. I told him I was going to eat breakfast in the AM, he stated he did not care, I had not spent over 10.00 to park. He then stated he was being harrassed by me because I was stating facts as they were. I proceded to explain who was harassing who, after getting me out of bed to walk up to a convienence store up the street to hire money to give him to give me a parking permit and a 10.00 gift card for breakfast in the morning. I walked up to the store, got his money, walked back down to the truck stop, and gave him his money. He gave me his parking permit, and the gift card, I proceeded to explain to him, unless my company or myself wanted the truck moved, HE was going to pay the charges.
Take this as you will, but driver harassment is still very prominent in this country. Again, if they required money or a certain amount of trade at a location, then they are responsible to advise customers at the best locations for notification, so everyone is notified. All thier notifications should be in multiple locations, so it is known to each customer without any question. I, for one will now go out of my way to avoid this location. This may be wrong, but we are harassed on a daily basis about stuff like this, and these places get away with it. Drag the driver over a barrel to make him or her to do as they wish. Like I mentioned, there would not have been an issue if I knew ahead of time. Rick.
I had the same exact thing happen at the same exact place. Only it was friggen snowing and I had to walk up to that store. Was probably the same guy.
I understand what the poster is saying here especially at this place, I had no clue it was pay parking, i rolled in late and just got lucky that someone had just left and opened up a spot. It was being woken up after falling asleep buy this not so pleasant guy, and being threatened to have your truck towed if you dont give his 10 bux right then.
I have no problem paying for a spot and in areas like that where the options are limited then you should expect to pay. But Make the signage better.

Oh and to someone elses question, I did have the breakfast and it was good.
It's not a bad place and now I know that if I'm likely to run out of hours delivering up the street have 10 bux on me.

I wouldn't have left my truck. How do you know it isn't somebody wanting you OUT of the truck so that he has a few minutes to help himself to whatever you might have in the truck? Sorry, but it ain't gonna happen....ESPECIALLY after I've already turned in for the night. I'm not wandering all over creation on foot in the middle of the night trying to find an ATM, either. If they wanted payment, they should have collected it on my way in...or they can get it on the way out. Payment will NOT be made in the middle of the night. Period.

cmon---really?==you pull into a restaraunt and then get pissy when they want 10 bucks for an overnight???-----its not a truckstop--its a business where they need the room for paying customers --you can go to a trucks top if you want free parking--wellll unless it is one that charges
