Things are changing in Calgary. The nice Canadian ladies who used to operate the Petro-Canada have been replaced by India -ns. When at Petro-Canada in Calgary a couple of weeks ago, one of those nice guys helped himself to my debit card information. Last night around midnight, I get a call from Chase Bank Fraud Department that a $500 charge was attempted on my debit card at that very station on my debit card I used two weeks ago to buy coffee. I use a debit card so I'm not running around with Canadian money that I can't use in the states when I get back. Just be cautious at that Petro if you're using a credit or debit card. I don't know how they do it, but they do. Thank God for Chase Bank's vigilance on my account. Yes, I understand you don't have to use a debit or credit card for coffee but I have a ton of Canadian money in coin that no one wants. Plus, if you pay via debit card, they have to charge you the published price and it doesn't allow THEM to calculate the exchange rate. and YES - BEWARE AT ALL TIMES - EVERYWHERE! AGREED!

Any idea which one? They're a chain up there. And with the currency being pretty much par, using a debit card for a coffee probably wasn't the best idea.

I can attest to that. I got a call from my CC company about several charges (about $40) that were made the night before in Las Vegas. The only thing is I live in NC and happened to be in bed.

They did cancel that card and overnighted me a new one at no charge.

Back in 2005, I was hit for $2400.....from Pakistan. Got the money back easily, but think how much easier it is to commit fraud now!

There was a scam posted the other day, and I believe it was at a couple of Walmarts where the person had cash showing as coming to them which they did not request or receive. I assume the cashier is able to punch in cash at the main console versus the little keypad the customer uses. Keep an eye on all your receipts.

Thanks for this. I usually record my charges into Quicken nightly and then see what is on my statement online. I balance my CB about 3 times a week.

Specifically, this occurred at the Petro-Canada located at 70 Freeport Blvd NE, Calgary, AB, T3J 3C6. Operator "A" was the individual in question.

Anymore, my support staff checks the accounts daily. Again, I commend Chase Bank for their vigilance and they have asked me to contact them when I leave the country so they can be even more so.
