I hate ATM fees with a passion. I had one ATM short me $60 and it took an act of Congress and 3 months to get it back. Like Charsalami :) says use cash back. Use debit or credit to purchase anything and cash back for your other stuff. I think Walmart is like $50 cash back with a transaction, grocery stores are your best bet. You go through the line with a purchase you might get $100. I remember one grocery store I went to customer service and didn't even have to buy anything. He said there was a $200 limit but he let me do it 3 times for $600. They'll ring it up as a purchase where it cost you nothing. You play your cards right you'll never have to use an ATM again.

Bingo!! I have a debit card and can use it as either that(a debit card) or as a MasterCard-all of the funds come out of checking account. ATM's gone-ByeBye...:)

I use my debt card like a credit card,
It's rare when I carry cash. If need be, get a tcheck from my office.
Save all those atm receipts. the fees , both your bank and outside atm charges , as are the fees when cashing a commdata , tcheck, eff check.
    are tax deductible.

i don't carry cash either. card all the way. unless i have a toll in my path.

used to be a time when washington mutual credited $.03 every time the card was swapped. i was averaging $60 yearly in my checking.
been using my card 100% since.

    credit unions don't charge fees.

capital one 360 uses allpoint atm no fee's but most atm are at walgreens and small places where it would be hard for a semi to get into. looks like target's also. should be able to get a truck in there. also if u open a 360 account you get $50.00 make sure you have the code or click a link that has the 50.00 bucks free

Personally, I like to carry cash. Not a lot, but it's always good to have 50-100 bucks on hand - you never know when you'll need it. Years ago, I hit the GWB and my ezpass decided it didn't want to scan. That was a real eye opener...

Most online banks reimburse ATM fees and even some brokerage firms offer checking/savings accounts that reimburse fees. I've been with Ally for over two years now and have yet to pay a penny for any of my accounts with them. My ATM fees are reimbursed monthly.

I always had $2500 cash in my pocket, can buy just about anything. Even today I carry a grand cash on me. Cash is good, ATM's you are dependent on the ATM working, right ? I see lots of ATM's "out of order". I don't feel like fumbling around trying to access cash from a machine when I can have cash in my pocket. I know people that debit card EVERYTHING, even a 99 cent coke at 7-11. It must take them 2 hours to reconcile their bank statement each month. My nephews 4 wheeler is full of receipts all over the dash and console from fast food/7-11's/gas stations etc. I just can't imagine being 1500 mi from home in a strange city with 79 cents in my pocket. I tried to buy a $200 watch 2 weeks ago and the seller's system was rejecting credit cards because of a flaw in their system that day, but, not to worry, I had cash in my pocket, otherwise, I would have had to forego this watch and drive back 45 miles another time if it was even available. I guess I got into this mindset years ago when I was sitting in a bar and a guy came in selling color TV's for $75 CASH and silly me, I only had about $20 on me so I missed out. Then there's the people that hit an ATM 3 times a day and get a whole $20 out every time.

I dunno if I would carry $2500 on me but of course that's a personal choice.I do agree though it is a good idea to carry some cash. About the debit/check card. Don't know about others but mine is done automatically and balances itself out on my online banking account. I can log in and check the money coming in(not nearly enough) and all the money going out. Every transaction I can look at since I had the checking account if I want..(I don't) :) Afterthought: I wonder how many even have $2500:biggrin_2556:

Walmart ATM fees are $1.50 last time I used one. You can also get $100 cash back there when you make a purchase. I normally get a cash advance against my comdata account when I fuel. There is no charge for that.

You can get up to $100 cash back at Walmart.

If I need cash, and I can't go to Walmart, I use my company cash advance. Even if I get the full amount, the fee is $3.75, as opposed to $3.95 for the ATM, but the fee depends on the amount, so if I get $20, the fee is something like 65 cents.
