Just goes to show the huge truck stop chains have too many customers. Why is it you have to wait in a line to fuel, wait in a line to get a receipt, wait in line to pay for whatever overpriced crap you would like to consume before it rots so the ONE cashier rings people through, while the other 3 or 4 managers or supervisors or whatever are back there counting money while the line is 20 people long. Don't even get me started on the "never a shower ready" programs that we seem to be trending towards. Nevermind their lack of parking for the amount of trucking customers they have - spend your money and get out! Independents all the way!!!!!

My local grocery store still bags groceries takes to the car and loads for the wife. Which is why we will never shop anywhere else. The bagger guy/gal gets a tip. Self checkout not ever if they want my money!. Pilot/ flyingj doing it to recoup the money they scammed from companies/drivers. Won't spend a penny in them, will find a petro, or small mom/pop fuel stop that appreciates my business. Usually they have good food too. Not that prepackaged garbage they want to sell in the hot deli. That crap is nasty!

While I hate them, I understand why more and more companies are doing this. I'm sure the kiosks pay for themselves in a few weeks and easily cover any "shrink" since they don't have to pay someone to work the counter. It makes me wonder what kind of jobs are going to be left for anyone in the next 50 years. At least some driver had to deliver them.

Since there appeared to be a shortage of cashiers you can go get a job there then they wouldn't need them.

Great attitude! Do you buy things MADE IN CHINA also, so you can save 10% and hopefully the quality is "good enough"? Run chinese tires by chance?

Guess they are making there way across the land. I even got a discount because I couldn't find where the chili and cheese for my dogs were.

I have no problem using them anywhere, but my experience with Pilot is that they had one cashier, three self checkout, and the lines were huge because guys couldn't figure out how to use them, there were no employees to help them, a manager trying to force people to use self checkout. I hardly ever go to Pilot/ FJ anymore because we get better fuel discounts at T/A - Petro. Pilot is the worst of all the truckstops for gouging the driver, did anyone else notice that shortly after they got caught ripping off fuel discounts the prices went up slightly across the boards at Pilot/ FJ ? They aren't refunding the fuel discounts, we are.

For a simple 2-3 items checkout, I'd rather use the self-checkout if there is no line and I don't have to deal with an employee who really doesn't seem to be too happy with the job anyway. The biggest gripe is that a cash transaction can be slowed vs using a cashier, otherwise, it's about the same IMO

You say you want a discount for doing "their job", their reply is simply "you did get a discount in the form of not paying more then you will if we have to keep hiring a bunch of morons who don't want to work very effectively, and then want more in return in the form of wages and benefits. The machine doesn't call in sick and doesn't pocket cash and doesn't have it's hand out on Friday wanting a payroll check"

Better get used to it. It's coming whether you like it or not, whether you participate or not, or whether you gripe or not.

I always use the self serve cashier at Walmart.Very rarely will I go thru check out.Today I pass every line with a cashier and like 10 or more waiting.I get to the self serve and one ahead of me almost done.Thats odd Flying J is so slow.Walmart is fast but theres always a lady there incase the machine wont take an item.At the flying j you could be waiting a half hr before someone comes to your aid.
