If i ask any senior driver for a great meal/shop. Most always says do it on your personal time. Thank you commercialized nation. The tight plazas, weight limits and the tree huggers.:biggrin_25516:

Agreed. I also think that whenever they build another location of a good place, the new isn't as good as the first. A good example is this place. They've been around since 1915...best #### hot dog I've ever had. My dad always took us there when we were little tykes in the 1960's. Right downtown, woodwork trim and lunch counter, tin ceiling, cooked the dogs right in the front window, hot water radiators for heat, a back entrance in the ally way, scuffed up old wooden floor and a couple of little dingy bathrooms in the back. They've cleaned it up a little bit and the place is run by the grand kids (they're in their 70's now), but the dogs are still as good as they were the day they opened the doors.

On the other hand, they opened another location out in Westwood in a strip mall...everything is all shiny and new, they don't cook in front of you...same recipe and hot dogs...but they just don't taste the same without the ambiance of the original location. Everything smells and looks new at the second store...maybe that's the big difference...the walls haven't absorbed 100 yrs. of smoke and fryer grease.

What a Burger on I20 at Clyde, TX makes real good burger. Has green chile double all yr that is special around DFW area from time to time. Truck parking at store.
One of my favorites is Little Mike's Famous Burgers in Oklahoma City. Northwest Hwy. Great burger/bun/fries. Here is double onion burger. Starts w/ giant meat ball. If you want onion burger throws a handful of chopped onion on griddle. Once they get soft slams giant meatball into them. Cooked to your specs. Small bar with several types of mustard, mayo, ketchup jalapenos other stuff for you to Dr you burger. Fresh cut fries on the old style fry cutter. Potato in. Push down and out come fries. Several chicken sandwiches and other items on menu but burgers are the stars. Darn-now I'm hungry.

Tommy's! (I prefer the chili on the side). There's one right across the street from the Barstow J. Fast, friendly, fresh, clean, cheap, hot fries, piles of self-serve condiments.

My parking space was the first on the street, right out front (feel free to use it), can't remember ever seeing a driver go in there. http://goo.gl/maps/qfo7f

Blakes is the ####### bomb. They built their first location outside of NM here in El Paso.

Yes, they do. As far as I know they're the only Blakes with dedicated truck parking. There's a Blakes in Las Cruces at exit 140 on I-10 on the Walmart lot. You can park in Walmart's parking lot. That store is cool with overnight parking too.
