I used to rest here often to avoid the crowded Pilot and Petro with no problems but now I'm sure I've had my diesel siphoned here twice last year.
The first time I was around half a tank before I went to bed. I woke up at around a 1/4 of a tank. Fuel cap was tight when I did the pretrip. I was idling pretty high due to the cold temps and thought that was the case.

The second time it happened, I was idling normally and had just above 3/4 of a tank going to bed and woke up to around 1/2 a tank. This time when I did my pre-trip, my fuel cap was loose and there was a bit of diesel spilled on the tank.

So, there must be someone either at the station or around the area doing this. Be careful and watchful.

When husband worked for USX je had some siphoned at a TA years ago, think it was a l/O that did it who worked for the same company, the person left the cap off, one sure way of knowing it was siphoned off. Then there was a possiblilty at a Pilot, some obscure place. So it happens, esp with the prices being the way they are.

I have heard of people reporting in the past that these thieves will even use a drill on the tank to drain it, esp if you have a locking cap of some sort.

You were lucky to not have more taken. Just remember to be safe and stay in the truck if you do notice someone hanging around the truck, it's not worth getting killed over. Also remember not to go to the back without keeping an eye on the catwalk, there are just so many criminals out there.

My aunt lived in Fair Oaks. I lived around Gary, crime even way back when.

I also had this happen many years ago at the TA north of Dallas,, front row... directly in front of the building... mid morning... came back out and noticed the fuel cap was not the way I leave it on my walk around. estimated the fuel and reported it along with pictures...

    Not much you can do...

No problem, better late than never. I've not been a member here for too long either.
