Remember the Flying J that was in the middle of Boise right next to the huge movie theater? Was kind of small and if I remember correctly the spots were 45° blindsides, but that theater was right there so it was worth the hassle. I think it's a Lowe's there now.

Or remember when the Pilot at exit 95 outside of Indy was where the RV place is now across from the McDonald's.

We're talking about "the truck stops of yester-year" but ever wonder what the new guys will think about the "new" truck stops today ... 30 years from now? What will new truck stops be like 30 years from now? ... Or will we be living in a "I Am Legend" world and trucking with donkeys?

I really would like to see a return to "full service" sort of like at the T/A in Mt Vernon, MO ... except maybe with hot girls who also wash the windows and work for tips

Hey Drifter...good to see that somebody else is still here that remembers when truckstops and cafes had character and individuality. Not knocking today's stuff but they all seem the same.

The little Mom and Pop cafes are the ones I miss the most. You could get real food, not the pre portioned pre made look-alike taste-alike food that's so common today.

I thought of a few more...most don't exist anymore but they were good while they lasted.

Going north on 5 and taking the Hwy 97 exit at Weed there was a little place on the right with parking for four or five trucks. Everybody from Eldon Graves, Leonardo and Fairchild used to stop there. Coffee went from 10 cents to 15 and we all refused to stop there anymore so they lowered the price on pie a dime.

The guys that didn't stop at Weed would stop at Warden. Nobody who knew anything would stop anywhere in K Falls.

If you stayed on I5 the cafe at Wolf Creek, when System99 was relaying there, was great.

Same with Canyonville...before they built the casino.

Over on I-80, nothing was better after a night fighting snow and chains than dropping into the Baxter Cafe for home made cinnamon rolls and a cup of coffee that never ran dry.

We were were lucky to have places like that and we took them for granted. Things sure change, don't they?

Remember when you could go to any doctor in America and get a DOT physical ?

I miss the days when 8 years of med school was enough to learn how to fill in the blanks on the easiest physical form on earth .

Thank god the leaders of our country have made us all safer with this new ruling !!!

Originally, Flying "J" did accept Com-Data, but quit for years. T/A in Lenwood (Barstow) was a Rip Griffin, but before it was a Rip Griffin, it was a Tomahawk. No one mentioned the old Husky truck stops with their diners. Evanston, Wy. comes to mind. How about the Roadrunner in Phoenix, Az. ? The Evergreen in Federal Way, Wa.

Don't know, yet I remember yesterday years, full service, & many of them would not only clean your windshield, they would wash your truck down while pumping the fuel. And when you ate you got a discount, & the greasy spoons had some very good food.

    Wow, & the price of fuel, 17, 18, 19 cents a gallon.

When I got off the over the road driving $1,000 dollars would just barely get me to the west coast & back.

On US 70 just west of Forest City was a small place on the south side of the road called the mans 1st name; Fine Dinner, or Fine Food. I believe the name was Mike, but not sure.

This was in the 60's before I-40 was finished. I was in the Air Force stationed at Blytheville AFB. One trip home I stopped there & I was hungered. I ordered a ham steak.

The only thing I remember was it was very thick & covered a very large plate, had a slice of pineapple on it, & it was delicious, the best ham steak I ever ate, & the price was great. Wow I would love to bite into a ham steak that tasted like that one right now!

Before stopping there I had passed & seen a few trucks parked there so I felt it would be fair at least, but it was way above fair. After that when ever I would go by there I would just have to stop. I would rate it one of Arkansas best. Sad that when I-40 was finished it went down. Wow, the interstates put many good places to fuel & eat out of business.

You guys notice a trend here?

No matter how bad things may get or how stupid some people can be in this industry, it sure does provide us with some great memories.
