A bit run down looking, but a great place to eat. $10 bought me more than my fill of a decent meal, much better than the gut-rot iron skillet Petro just to the west. I think the restaurant is open 24 hours also, at least it used to be. Can't comment on shower cleanliness. It's already after 9PM and still plenty of parking here.

That place was always a good place to eat as I recall. I used to fill vending machines for Pepsi in Deming and Silver City.

If you want an interesting drive, go east on NM549. That's old US80.

It's 4 lanes for several miles then goes back to two. But the easement that the state got to make the 4 lane road (before the interstate system was implemented, the plan was to make US80 a 4 lane at grade highway from Dallas to San Diego) was never given back to the property owners so from Deming to Akela Flats the fence line on the south side of the highway is way off to the side compared to the north side.

For whatever reason they surveyed the path of the interstate off of the path of US 80 (unlike I20 in between 10 and Dallas which pretty much is built on the old path of US80).
