well i'll just be showing my age but pulling up to the pump at the sturbridge isle and having the fuel jockey come out and ask fill er up and as you go grab a cup of jo he's out there washing your glass and walking around thumpin your tires. man those were the days. pulling in to the truck stop and meeting old and new friends was nice. how about some of the older drivers listing some of their long gone favorite stops.i have a couple that i miss.the ole mass 10,how about secondies or the mayflower? out on 90 i would always stop in at the green shingle. i would always go otta my way for a mom and pop place, felt more like home. how about back in the day when you broke down you would have a half dozen trucks stop and help out.man i miss the old days.:sad10:

If I eventually have a truck I can take my motorcycle behind the sleeper on the catwalk I would stop there for my own spot. Know I won't get backed into. Know I am not going to get broken into. Maybe just a nice place to park that is kind of like camping, with windows down and not a care in the world and doesn't smell like urine or have to watch out for #2 on the ground ... I would visit there and make a mini-vacation out of it. I am talking more of a place to relax for a couple days, I would not use this for any mandated rest breaks.

The urine covered parking lots are pretty disgusting. Even most of the rest areas are this way. I try like hell to find a Walmart or the like to park at in my attempt to avoid the usual truckstop regulars.
It never ceases to amaze me how low class drivers are becoming. It's like dignity has left the building with a lot of these guys. Driving through truck stops like Andretti(slow the hell down!), whizzing behind the cab while fueling(walk to the toilet bum!), talking on the phone loudly while standing in line(use your unlimited minutes with consideration to others ears), leaving a mess behind them in restaraunts as if they were a toddler(pick up after yourself fool!), and so on...

Guess my 'dream' Truckstop would be a place without all of the above. Maybe call it 'Old School Truck Plaza'.

Hey man that sounds awesome!!! That's a great area and MUCH needed! How much land did u get and are you putting in showers? I can always fuelelsewhere to grab my points, maybe without fuel and just a clean place to relax, will keep out the filth!! If u have to pay to park n relax I think folks would probably respect a place like that! I can't imagine paying and trashing a place but hey ya never know!
Congrats to you and best wishes for your new endeavors, keep us posted

24/7 home cooking type food. Subway and McDonald's just are not that attractive after a few months in a truck.

If anybody is familiar with the gas station chain Sheetz; I always thought they would make a good truck stop if they added basics like a diesel island, parking, drivers lounge, and showers. They have some pretty decent food. I like their subs and wraps. Not a Dream Truck Stop, but definitely a business model they should consider in my non-expert opinion.

If I were to build what I think would be a dream yet realistic truck stop; In addition to all the typical stuff necessary to trucking like diesel, ample parking, showers, typical convenience store amenities...

    For truckers
    - Well equipped fitness room with entry based on a fuel points system like the showers or just a flat fee for use.
    - Truckers only restrooms in parking area.
    - Picnic area with tables, grills, and fire pits similar to many parks and campgrounds.
    - Fenced in dog run
    - Decent Wi/Fi - Free with so many rewards points - cheap for everybody else
    - Truckers lounge with TV's
    - Truckers lounge with no TV's
    - Laundry, full service and do it yourself.
    - By the hour car rental
    - Redbox movie rentals

    Food
    - 24 Hour Bojangles restaurant
    - Hibachi style quick serve Japanese or Chinese restaurant
    - Salad bar with take out trays priced by weight
    - 24 hour coffee shop

... speed bumps .. designated reefer parking ... efficient traffic flow pattern from fuel island ... seperate checkouts/cashiers for truck drivers .... ban Law & Order from TV room... and no inside store or fuel pump overhead speakers indoctrinating (more like insulting) us to purchase more overpriced crap.
