We could get on the radio and rally up a bunch of drivers to go inside and load up on items, get in line, then set everything on the floor and walk out.

My friend xpierience at walmart is usually when I just sorta wasting time looking around around say an hour or more , its like when I head to the register everybody in the store beats me and like 40/50 people trying to check out and like 2 or 3 people working on a line of like 30 registers , WoW drives me crazy , I too try to avoid them

At the opposite end of customer service is Publix grocery stores, they open a register when there are 3 people in line AND they will unload your cart at checkout and offer to put groceries in your car. That's customer service!! -
If you worked in retail it is not hard to figure out. The manpower needs at the front-end vary wildly and convenience stores, which is exactly what all Pilot/Flying J's are have a relatively few #of employees on hand. I would bet the store portion has no more than 4 on a daytime shift. Taking care of the registers is just one of the responsibilities these folks have. In seconds the line can go from 1 to 7 people, and it takes a few minutes for an employee who is in the cooler to respond to whatever signally system they have set up to stop stocking and open up.
Add a series of complicated transactions (I want to send a Western Union to Swahili...), an unmotivated workforce being paid near minimum wage and a high turnover rate, and your 14 hours are doing the same slow burn you are.allniter Thanks this. -
Most Wal-Marts have installed an area of self-serve registers, no one crowds you from behind. Can ring up most any item including grocery and most give cash back, too. Faster than Circle K or 7-Eleven.
I rarely stop at truck stops any more. Rest areas and Wal-Mart, mostly. Yeah, I sleep there, too. (Wal-Mart)
