I bought 150 gallons of fuel at the Pilot TS in New Braunfels TX, on Sunday
afternoon 08-17-2014. My truck is still out of service waiting to get fixed.
I know at least 40+other trucks got put out of service by this screw up. the
people running that truck stop knew that their fuel had water in it the day
before but they continued to sell it. Pilot will be paying out a lot of money
for this negligence. I heard from reliable sources it may cost them over a
million dollars for this mistake. I imagine a few people may be looking for
a new job soon...

I got sand in my tanks twice from a local Holiday station. Both times the tanks where redone. This second time they finally went out of the way and completely relaced all the diesel tanks at said station.
Too bad my company was too dumb too chase there ### down for the new injectors and a complete in frame it cost them. -
Out of curiosity, how did you come about the knowledge of these 40 other trucks with the same problem that fueled there the same day? That's a pretty neat trick unless Pilot was honest with you about the situation.

The other truck driver that was riding in the tow truck that towed me to the
Freightliner dealer in Converse TX, got water in his fuel the night before at
about 0100am. He said their where at least a dozen trucks sitting at that Pilot
broke down with water in the fuel they bought. The tow truck driver told me
that he had towed 11 other trucks for $1000 each that had water in their fuel
tanks. The hotel clerk where I stayed in Converse TX. said 10 other drivers
where staying in the same hotel I was at because they bought fuel at that Pilot
The service manager at the freightliner dealer in Converse TX, told me he had
20 trucks in front of me with the same problem and would not be able to get to
my truck till at least next Wednesday. My company just paid another $1500 to
get me towed to the Freightliner in Byran TX, about 190 miles to get me running
again. That is just for Freightliner. I would assume that Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo
and International are also doing a brisk business getting trucks with the same
problem running again. No trick about it. Pilot knew they had water in the fuel

Well, when you consider they move 50-70 trucks/hour through the fuel pumps at a typical high-volume truck stop and that it takes time for the damage to occur, then more time for the dots to be connected, then more time for someone at the store to be confident they do have a problem ... I find it hard to believe they would continue selling fuel once they were sure a real problem existed, until they made a determination the problem was corrected.
My point is, if they did have a major water breach in their system that overran the filtration systems, if they only ruined 40 trucks, they were lucky. With these newer fuel systems today, an 1/8 cup water getting past the filter(s) can cost $4,000+ in repairs. But truck fuel filters should trap that much so there must have been A LOT of water get into their system to keep getting pumped up. No doubt there was a tanker dumping "fuel" there when and/or shortly before you guys fueled, stirring up the water/sediment.
Not sure if they had rain recently there, but in the very rare occurrence of a underground tank breach occurred, this will happen.Raiderfanatic Thanks this. -
A question I have for the fuel haulers is do the lids on where they fill the underground tanks seal? I was wondering this last week after my area had heavy rains and the gas station parking lot was under about 4" of water, including the lids where the fuel truck hooks up. Are they liquid tight?

Well it's good to know that pilot is taking care of the expenses and not trying to fight it. Things happen that are out of our control but as long as the guilty party admits responsibility and takes care of it I have no problem with it. I would add that if it happened to me I would also seek $500 per day downtime. Plus the cost of repairs that would make me a happy man.
