Hi everyone, I drive a regional rout and would love some recommendations for truck friendly restaurants. Here's the catch, I want my food actually prepared by a cook rather than getting premanufactured slop poured from a bag and half ### heated up by a moron in an apron. Know what I mean? I generally run through most of VA and NC.

My favorite is sausage gravy over buscuits or chicken fried steak but getting the real thing is more and more rare. Please help. I'd rather stick a fork in my eye than eat at another Denny's or Iron Skillet.

If you get to Chesapeake VA, Franks Truck Stop has good food. (At least 3 years ago it was good...)

When it comes to home-style cooking, no one does it better than the Iron Skillet Restaurants at Petro Stopping Centers. The Iron Skillet serves professional drivers, interstate motorists, and local residents delicious food with exceptional service 24-hours a day, seven days a week. They offer a full menu, breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets. It's no wonder that the Iron Skillet enjoys a reputation as the favorite travel plaza restaurant in the nation.
The Iron Skillet offers a wide variety of menu items; from their legendary King of the Road chicken-fried steak, to their Angus beef steak dinners. Visit their famous Soup and Salad Bar featuring freshly prepared soups and homemade salad dressings. They also feature special monthly promotions.
The Iron Skillet is also a favorite breakfast stop, serving breakfast 24-hours per day with their bottomless cup of hot coffee. Whether you want a double skillet portion of ham and eggs, a three egg omelet, or a hot cake stack, no one leaves the Iron Skillet hungry.
Stop by and see them, you'll be glad you did.

Denny's is America's diner. That is where Americans have gone for over 60 years now to sit back, relax, and enjoy delicious, hearty meals 24/7, every day of the year. From breakfast anytime to satisfying lunches and dinners, if you're in the mood for it, chances are they're serving it. Denny's is always open, always welcoming and always serving up hearty diner food along with a mug of fresh hot coffee. So go on in anytime, park yourself in a comfortable booth, take a seat at the counter, whatever you want, because it won't take you long to understand why they're truly America's diner.

You are being facetious here aren't you White Dog? Or are you just sadistic?:biggrin_2554: Or maybe you've just been on the road too long?

I've been off the road for years, but I sure see tjholliday's point of view. Only time I would go to Denny's would be if I was starving and had no choice.:biggrin_25513:

Mt. Airy, NC on I-77 @ the Bindles (spelling?????) TS. Their buffet has southern style vegetables that is truly "old home" and cooked from scratch. Best buffet on the road bar none!

I-95, I believe exit 173 in NC, Roanoke Rapids /Weldon is Ralphs BBQ with truck parking, eat in buffet or from the menu. Or take out. Been eating there for years, you won't be disappointed.
