Exit 257 on I-55 in Joliet, IL there used to be a truck stop with a huge parking lot on the west side of 55. It is still there just abandoned. Anyone know when and why it closed? Chicago has a major shortage of truck stops and to have one close is bad news.
What happened to the big truck stop in Joliet IL?

That one has been closed for a long time, due to community pressure I have been told, but I don't know any more than that, and have seen nothing to back that claim up. That reason still persists.
Just to give a better sense of the location, it is north of I80 and west on US 30 just off I-55.
There is construction widening the southbound off ramp at that location at present.DriverToBroker and skibum_63 Thank this. -
That was the Clark Auto/Truck Stop. The city closed it by denying permits and re-zoning the immediate area. I remember it was a pay to park with a decent restaurant and secured yard. The property is currently being eyed by commercial developers.

I believe thats Shorewood not Joliet... There was a thread on here some time ago and a local driver from the area said that the town committie voted down the approval for permits and what not because I believe someone was interested in reopening that truck stop, and that they didnt want all the truck traffic and everything else that comes with a truck stop. Anything would beat that dump of a truck stop in Bolingbrook I'm glad I live in the area and never have had to stay there.

That truck stop in Bolingbrook has a good restaurant.

So instead of letting them open up and bringing a few jobs and tax income, they let it sit and rot. That makes sense.
