Wilco/Hess

Yeah it's a repost.

 

Hess stock is in a free fall.

Cramer was yelling don't touch it last night matter of fact.

 

Hess sold all of their retail gasoline outlets, which will become Speedway owned by Marathon.

 

Pilot also got the Hess/Wilco at Exit 77 on I77/I81 in Wytheville. Make that 3 PFJ's within 4 miles now.

 

Uggh. Hess was one of my favorites to stop at. PFJ, not so much.

 

Lol! Realized that a few weeks ago when I tried to swipe my Wilco rewards card...They had put a Pilot sticker on the pump...duh!

 

Questions about WilcoHess. I drive for Marathon so maybe I can help. The Hess stations in VA, Conn and three Midwest states are under contract with Pilot. They do not own the stations. Marathon signed an agreement with Pilot years ago about trade offs. The reason for this is what they call the Refiners law. Va, Conn have this law, where Hess operates. A Refiner or Manufacturer cannot sell directly to the public, they must go through a broker. Pilot in this case is the broker. Wilco pulled their trucks out of Va. The drivers are now driving the Pilot trucks hauling to the same stations.
As of right now Speedway is rebranding all the stores in Florida. When that complete they will move to the northeast. The reason for this is simple, the weather. When the northeast is complete they will move into and rebrand the Carolinas last. The trucks will not be rebranded till they figure out which company logo they will run whether it's Marathon or Speedway, hopefully its Marathon. I've been doing this for 45 years and have worked with about every major oil company on the planet. Oil companies get tired of a market area, they sell to the next guy or trade off. Why I don't know I just drive for them. As far as driving for them, it's a good driving job, home nightly, good equipment but you have to play by the rules, no BS. Most truckers who are new think they can make lots of money on the road, well you can after you get experience. Most new drivers don't think about expenses while on the road so all that big money is whittled down to nothing. You cannot beat the benefits working for a major oil company. Maybe you can working for a Union company but that's if your working under a master freight agreement which most don't know what that is. UPS, Fed X, YRC, etc. Just because somebody's union doesn't mean squat unless their under that agreement.
Yes it's dangerous job but it's only as dangerous as you make it. I have lost a couple of friends who burned up in tankers back in the early 70's when equipment wasn't as good as it is now. With new rules, better brakes, hoses and other equipment it's up to you if you want to be safe, but the oil companies won't put up unsafe drivers.

Miss the days of seeing all the major oil companies trucks on the road. Got offered a job with Mobil around 15 years ago right before they pulled there fleet here but everyone knew it was coming. Glad there are still some good petroleum jobs out there.

 

Just like Tesla not being able to sell directly to customers -- government trying to create jobs by mandating middle men...
