The Cabelas in Hammond Indiana ( on 80/94 Illinois/Indiana border ) has a new marque sign up as your approaching the parking lot that reads " Over-Night Semi Truck parking is no longer authorized and violaters will be cited by the Hammond Police Department...
If I had to guess it would be just like any other place that doesn't want trucks parking is because of the lack of respect that drivers have with trashing the lot...
Pretty sad
I'm glad I drive local now and don't have to worry about it...
Anyone know if other Cabelas are doing this as well?
No more Cabelas

I heard they are no longer allowing overnight parking at that location due to drivers leaving there trucks there to go home for 34 hr reset
Marksteven Thanks this. -
If you plan on leaving your truck for a restart it would be much better if you asked permission from the manager or owner of the property. I have done that a few times and it has never been a problem.

Sad that we truckers have lost another place to park
HalpinUout Thanks this. -
I wouldn't be surprised if actual truck stops started denying overnight parking. Surely there cannot be enough profit in running a truck stop to put up with drivers dropping their garbage our the driver's side window and asking for a radio check for their pretrip before they leave.

Drivers, please take care to not do anything to offend the Cabela's in Fort Worth, TX.

I will say it again. Why does the trucking industry automatically expect someone else (Walmart, Cabela's, private property ("empty lot"), on street parking, etc to accomodate and pay for a business expense that should be borne by the industry itself?
It would be like the neighborhood car dealer parking 30% of his cars for sale at the shopping center next door because he doesn't want to buy the real estate, pay to improve it, maintain it and pay taxes on it. That would not be tolerated.
Cabela's is smart enough to provide truck parking for customers to shop in the store, because lots of their customers are truck drivers. Those facilities were never intended for overnight or 10 hour breaks. What a surprise that an abuse causes this reaction.spyder7723, IndianaF150, ncmickey and 10 others Thank this. -
Hijack....
Most these Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops are built using local tax dollars. Then most the store gets classified as a museum and they don't pay property taxes on that part.Oldironfan Thanks this. -
