Ok I am starting with Schneider on Monday and if you look in the Schneider thread, I talk about how I trade stocks online and stuff. So, I know a lot of truckers may be the screw the next guy because life has been hard on me type but I also know there are some really cool guys out there too. So, I am starting this thread to see if everyone might be willing to take the 30 seconds to record your locations where you found free WIFI that you could park at with your truck. Or at the very least be a very short walk from your truck to get online for free.

I know a lot of people on here like to talk up their cell phones and data plans. Congrats if you got in when the cell phone companies offered unlimited data. But, Free WIFI saves on data.. Especially for those of us that get a lot o video feed and burn up a GB per hour on streaming video.

    So if you post on here... Please provide as much information as possible. Including;
The address including the state where you found free WIFI.
The name of the business or building where you got it.
The Interstate mile marker or exit ramp number, road, or any directions that would help the next person find the free WIFI
How strong was the signal ?
Also, any additional information like it is ok to park there overnight but be gone by 5am the next day before the business opens..

Then how about if you stayed at a hotel/motel somewhere ?... Did you get a password that we could all use ?

Last but not least, think about your hometown or city where you are from... Please share any Free WIFI info from your home town that a trucker can use.

    Ok with that said.

Peoria, IL... Off the beaten path from the major trucking lanes. But, here are some free wifi hotspots around town that a trucker could use.

Best Buy at Big Hollow Road off of 150/War Memorial Drive.
Just be gone by morning when the store opens.

If you exit on Allen Road off of Rt 6 (It is the 474 loop), and turn to go into the Walmart or Shell/Burger King follow that road all the way back till you see the Peoria Public Library North Branch location. You can get free WIFI there.

The only McDonald's in Peoria I know of that has Free WIFI is located on Knoxville, RD off of Rt 6. Get off of Rt 6 and head north. This road is big enough to allow semi trucks to drive on it. Go north on Knoxville (Rt 40) for about 3 miles till you see the McDonald's located next to a Walgreens or CVS pharmacy type store and you can get free WIFI there. You will have to park on Knoxville and walk over since the parking lot is small.

The Panera Bread company stores in Peoria offer Free WIFI too. One is located off of the same exit at Rt 6 and Knoxville as the McDonald's only turn south and look to the right after you drive past Kroger. That Panera is close enough to Knoxville that you can probably just park your truck on Knoxville to pick up the signal. Only thing about Panera is they might limit the time you can get WIFI.

The other Panera Bread company location is off of I-74 at the Sterling exit. Get off the interstate and turn north and Panera will be just behind the Sonic Drive-in at the Strip mall next to the guitar center. I wouldn't recommend doing anything but parking here overnight and hoping the security guards will be cool.

The airport in Peoria has free WIFI if you go inside. Will be very hard to park a truck there though.

In downtown Peoria, there is Bradley University that has free WIFI and the University of IL at Peoria that also has free WIFI. I wouldn't try this unless it is very late at night and you will be gone by 4:30am the next day since these places are located on Main Street and things get busy during the day. Although I do see a lot of beer delivery trucks and other deliveries made by truckers on Main Street during the day, so maybe me green newbie trucker self just lacks confidence. Both of these colleges are located off of I-74 and on Main Street.

The Super 8 motel in Chillicothe, IL along Rt 29 north of Peoria has WIFI. You type in Guest and a room number as the password and you can access their WIFI. OF course this may change in the future.

Ok, now I will copy and pasted some other locations that other people have mentioned in other threads on this website. The Ambest tip was probably the best. I went on their website and they have locations all over the country. I will definitely be looking there when I need to stop if that tip was true. But, here are the tip from other posters:

    Joplin Petro
    Oak Grove Petro
    Iowa 80 TA

I've only been to one Love's McDonald's that didn't have wifi, the one in Odessa, TX.
If you park close enough to the Con-Way terminal at the old 76 truckstop in Blythe, CA you can pick up their free wifi signal.

Many of the Travel Centers (not all) in the AMBEST group have free WiFi. Shoemacher's in Lincoln as was mentioned earlier,
has super fast free WiFi is part of AMBEST. http://www.am-best.com/AMBEST-Interactive-Map.cfm

Ok so, as usual.... Those who are cool and willing to put in the time to share their info for us all... Thank you and your momma for raising you right. Those who only take and never give back in life that will use this thread for yourself and never share any info: you stink.

You know if we could all just come together and stick with one another, we could all be making $200,000 a year driving a truck because this country shuts down without truckers moving freight. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it. All of our lives get better collectively if we just get over ourselves and work together towards a common goal. Since putting a stranglehold on the nation's economy is too big, let's work together and hook each other up with Free WIFI to enrich each other's lives. Please take the time to post on here when you score free WIFI. If I am the only one on here doing it, that is fine. Glad I could help you out.

also please be specific... don't just say McDonald's.. Say the Love's McDonald's at mile marker 217 in the state of ** on I-99 or whatever.

Over time I will edit and update everyone's post into a single thread post that puts the free wifi locations into categories by state. So that way when you are in Ohio, you can use your cell phone to see where the next free wifi hotspot is without surfing this thread for 2 hours to figure it out.

You folks provide the information and I will organize it for a quick view... Hopefully in the end, we all benefit.

I forgot about a couple of other free spots... Anytime you see a Midwest Technical Institute, you see Free WIFI. There is one in East Peoria, IL off of I-74 and Pinecrest and there is another off of I-55 in Springfield, IL. The Springfield one you can see from the interstate next to a tractor dealership. They have a lot more locations than that but I know those two locations have free WIFI. Just be gone by 5:30am when people start showing up to run the school. After 8pm should be safe to park there.

I was going to post the same thing, Lowes wifi is excellent. Maybe that subconciously influenced my decision to buy a refrigerator from them today. Or maybe price who knows

Not much freight up here but I run in and out of VT daily. VT rest areas have good free wifi.

If you call a Lowes or home depot and they allow you to park there they have free wifi to. Not sure how many allow parking but i deliver to Lowes and home depot daily so they allow me to park there

WA used to have free wifi at the rest stops, they may still. I used to stop by one on the way home every day to check for messages when my phone was out of service.
ID used to do it as well, but I haven't been through there in a few years.
