Does anyone remember the truckstop that used to be on I-95 at exit 102, Summerton, SC on Routes 301/15? I can't remember what company ran it and I think it was a T/A. I had stopped there way back in 1970-72 but I think it has long been torn down. Maybe when they tore down the old Santee River bridge that was the end of it. I was just thinking back a few years and can't remember this one. Thanks drivers.

On the northeast side of that intersection? Don't remember it being a ta, but the manning place was a 76 back then.
-
Not the Manning T/A at exit 118. That was a Union 76. Further south at the last exit before the Santee River bridge.

You are talking about the old RHODES TRUCK STOP.Just north of the river on the west side.Possibly ESSO. I remember it had a barber shop, and lots of parking.
-
I remember the smallish one on the NE Corner, it was open until a few years ago. The other one I don't remember, there are a few motels on the West side of 95, and used to be a small convenience store place with some truck parking behind it.
OH, and then there was the one on 301, between 95 and 26. Not sure that one is open or not? -
Thank you for the update on Rhodes Truckstop. I am sure that this is the one I was thinking about. It has been since 1970-72 that I was at this truckstop and I thought that it might have been a T/A at one time. I'm trying to locate information or pictures of it but I only located one pic of a post card. Oh well I'll keep trying and you be safe and enjoy the upcoming holiday season. Navypoppop

Yeah, I saw the post card.

Thanks. I'm trying to find any information on any of the old truckstops that have long since closed down around the USA. I have purchased the book, "All American Truck Stops" on Amazon and it is a real good source of information and pictures but doesn't answer all the questions. I remember visiting the old original T/A's like the one in Garysburg, NC and wish there were places to find out all the information needed but I'm lost. OK everyone enjoy the upcoming holiday season, be safe and happy because I'm enjoying my retirement after 44 years and over 3 million miles across this great country we call home.

Talk about old truck stops, before all of the mom and pops places were put out of business by the mega-chains, it really brings back memories. After 52 years of running up and down the highways, most of my favorites were Jarrell's at Doswell, Va or Simmons at Keysville, Va. You talk about the truck stops around Santee, well we could bring up another topic,---LOL And North 29 at Lexington, NC and all of the truck stops between Danville and South Boston. But we won't go there.
The Road Ranger at Carlisle, Pa had the best chicken sandwich that you ever tasted. Remember Peggy's Chicken House up near New Castle, De. or Johnny's in Clinton, NJ which is now a Pilot. Or what about the one in Charlotte, NC I believe it was called the World 600 or something like that. The T/A right before Atlanta on 1-85 coming south, Beaver Run Rd??? I could go on and on. Truck stops have taken the same route as trucking and in my opinion, for the worse.x1Heavy, bubbagumpshrimp and Bushman Thank this. -
Any one on here go back to 1953-58 across the southeast? FL , GA, SC,
NC, and up to Tooleys in Jersey City?
New Orleans up #11 to B'ham then #78 to Atlanta, then #29 on into the Carolinas.
E. St Louis, IL down #3 to Cairo, #51 across to S. Fulton,KY, #45 down thru Milan, then
Jackson, TN and on south on #45 (The old hog haulers route out of St Louis to Bryan Bros
at West Point, MS when you were too heavy for MO, and AR.)
In 58, Columbus, MS on #82, #165 to Monroe, LA, then # 80 all way to Yuma when you
cut up over Whitewater to get to LA.
Been a long time. I have family in Lex, KY and Round Rock, TX. Regularly drive to both out
of Tupelo, MS in my little ISUZU PU. All the old M and P's are closed and decaying, been razed
and new other construction. Sad kind of progress. Would fear going west of Dallas now.
