Sheffields "where Jesus is Lord" Jasper, FL

    Not sure if it is here somewhere, browsed the 1st few pages and didn't see it. There used to be a truck stop on I-75 in N FL (X-462) named Sheffield's. A number of years ago, due to new EPA regulations on underground fuel tanks, it stopped selling fuel and was a restaurant (Catfish house)with a really big parking lot and an independent scale. It was even a part of a comedy bit by Jake Johanson because it was 'where Jesus was Lord'. His bit said, "he doesn't want to eat where Jesus did, he was skinny...he wants to eat where Buda does, the food must be better". Anyway, recently (since Thanksgiving) I found myself coming thru that area only to be surprised by the fact that Sheffield's is gone. Replaced by a bright and shiny new Flying/Pilot. One of the fanciest Pilots I've seen. Mega sized 'buffet size' deli, pizza PJ Cinnamon's etc. DIY cash registers and all... Never was a huge fan of the Sheffield's, but I hate to see mega-chain truck stops replace any private places.

    I've been there. Was told I wasn't missing much from Sheffields; but at least the overtaking pilot is nice on the inside.

    I stopped there a while back, pretty sure my post is still lurking around here someplace...

    I remember that old place. Good place to park, ok place to eat. Have seen the new place , but does not really interest me.Looking back, it was a dump, but there was just something about those old truck stops that felt good and comfortable.

    There was a time when the catfish was fresh&the hushpuppies rivaled grandmas.....but back then they had full service fuel also....lol....hadnt been much to right home about for years.....shame but no great loss at this point.....:(

    it like a lot of us , we aint what we once was, just like the old truckstops we are slowly fading away. but hang on for dear life. back in the day it was helluva nice stop, like me back in the day I was a good lookin sumbuck, but father time has withered me away. one thing for sure is these young bucks wont ever have the stories we have from those old places, these pilots just aint conducive to crap happening that make good stories.

    Both places at the 460 were good truckstops.

    Sheffield had the best, all you eat catfish. :biggrin_25514:

    Taking my 30 minute here now actually... I haven't found a better place in the way to Lakeland.

    stop at Micanopy, pretty good burgers, free showers and boobs and tail also. much better than a pj fresh at pilot
