Look have you heard of paying it forward? have you even seen the movie? ok so lets look at it in a different angle then....

I start my day pick up my load, head to the truckstop and buy $500.00 dollars of fuel...I don't stay there and I move on down the road.

the driver that came in behind me maybe he done for the day goes and finds a place to park and spends the night. (now this driver may not have spent a dime) but to his benefit I did spend money there which would make up for that person to be parking there.

just because there are quite a few that cannot figure out how a trash can works, or where the actual bathroom is making it hard for all us that do know how to use a bathroom properly and how a trash can works.

Do you see the truckstops charging the 4 wheelers to park and spend the night in the parking lots? you mean there are no messy 4 wheelers out there or RV'rs really? Its called a TRUCKSTOP because its the TRUCKS who can make them or break them without us supporting them they wouldn't be in business. (just take a look at how many truckstops went out of business because TRUCKERS stop supporting them.)

So before you go an judge we as drivers pay it forward on a daily basis out here for other drivers without even really thinking about it, it may not be much, but free parking is allot for someone who really is in need to get off the road and have a safe place to park.

The last time I checked it was my money that I earn, not theirs, and I am not about to allow anyone to dictate to me how much money I need to spend anywhere. My wife doesn't even tell me how much money I am going to spend and where I am going to spend it. So why in the world would I allow a company, or a truckstop to tell me how much I need to spend. (want to give me the option, and if I need to use the option great I will use it). But to just expect and demand it forget it.

I don't think it cost $7.5 Million 20 years ago to build a TS. Prices on everything have gone up and who do you think gets to pay for those increases? Price increases come down from the top and they are paid from the bottom. That is life, join the party or go find another Country to live in. I don't like paying for parking either, got used to not paying but, I like the reserve spots and use them. I understand economics and don't have a problem with a property owner charging for parking, frankly I am surprised they all don't charge and haven't for years. What truckers did 20 plus years ago has nothing to do with today. paying it forward mind set is good but, not economical in today's standards. Money is tight for all business owners, and most are not "greedy", they just want to make a profit, like I do. I am sure you all are aware that businesses are taxed, hence is why they move shop to outside the Country. I am amazed at the ones that are still here. Anyway, I digress, and I have made my point.

that's just it, you do have an option. you don't have to use the reserve parking, that's optional. and if you do use the reserve parking at one of the stops that require a 20 dollar purchase or pay to park, the reserve park fee goes toward that 20 bucks.

the other option is stay 2 hours and leave, or buy 50 gallons of fuel, or spend 20 dollars. if ya don't agree with that you have the option to leave and go somewhere else.

th reserved parking actually increases ones options. I know the areas where parking is at a premium, and I use it accordingly, I in fact used the reserve parking at Baldwin,fl a few days ago. I reserved my spot 2 days ahead of time , got there at 7 pm and had a spot waiting. I love that option

If I drank coffee more than I do, I would invest in a Keurig myself but, I actually try to not drink coffee.

This thread i believe can't remember now and too lazy to go back and re-read, but i believe was about being forced to pay to park...granted i would much rather have the option but lets clarify a great answer you gave.....

if you were forced to buy fuel, or spend xx amount of money in order to park at a truckstop are you the one who says ok and gives into the truckstop demands.....or are you like me who just moves on down the road to find another place to park at.
