It's not walking inside that I have a problem with, I don't mind that. sometimes I just don't want to spend 30 minutes when I just want to run inside and use the restroom or get a snack.

Apparently it is just us! Oh well haha

There use to be a McD's on US17 in VA that had a truck drive thru. It was between I66 and I95 in a truck stop parking lot. Only time I ever saw such a thing. But part of the problem, they would have to make the menu board/speaker out of inch thick steel encased in concrete with 8" crash blocking pipe on either side to keep all the crash prone drivers from driving over it.

There is also a place near the Love's in Jackson, TN that takes your order via the cb. You can be in the Love's lot, or waiting to turn off thr exit and call your order in and it's ready when you get there. They even have country meals like fried bologna sandwiches (if you're from TN, that's pronounced fried baloney samiches)...not my personal favorite :puke:

I do think it's a good idea...if you want a meal at the end of the day, the a stroll to the sit down is fine, but if you want a quick bite and are trying to keep rolling...drive thru.

Drive throughs often take longer then just running in, most times the drive through has 6-8 cars while inside the counter is empty.
Besides if you've been driving and plan on more then you really need to take a restroom break anyway, so its kind of pointless.

Most likely the reason there are none.

I'd really love to see more ACT truck stops like the one in Hagerstown, MD. The fried chicken and the rest of the country food those ladies cook is amazing !

I private developer can't just create their own entry and exit on a limited access highway. They would have to be on a secondary road or access road, so there goes that quick access you speak of.

Not saying its not a good idea, but most drive throughs at ff restaurants are plagued with long lines, especially the ones with easy access off the highway. I could imagine quite a cluster with an easy off restaurant, truck drive through, or whatever. Just look at how crowded the truck stops are now. Doesn't bother me to pull through the fuel pump, or even park, and walk in. I'm usually ready to stretch my legs by then anyway. IMO, we need more truck stops.

the idea isn't bad, but think about what you just said above. Now think of the cost of building such a facility and getting your money back out of it.

you drove in, contributed to wear and tear on the asphalt. You occupied about 750 sq feet of real estate for 15 min, contributed to wear and tear on the bathroom, you used soap and toilet paper, you generated sewer/water expense. And then you bought a snack. How much would the store owner have to charge for that snack to generate a profit? Would you complain if the hot dog cost $7?

ive thought about these things thru and thru, the best I could come up with is small "high end" truck stops, where drivers don't mind paying for parking in exchange for premium amenities.

Convenience = expensive. ie, convenience stores.
