If one of my dreams comes true and I EVER open a gym, I'll see to it that truckers will have a mere drop-in fee, and a dollar shower fee if possible. Most gyms now charge TEN STINKIN' BUCKS to let you drop in, up from FIVE just a few years ago.
Truckers would be repeat customers as well, once treated like humans. I would also do evaluations, 101 training, and goal assessment by the hour.
I make a living, you get science-backed advice. My specialty? Post-40 athletics!

The truck stop in Gadsden, AL (I think it is now a Petro 2) has a workout room in the building. I have never seen it utilized though.

I have a membership at Golds Gym in my area. I get a card from them that's good for a year that lets me use any of their facilities nationwide. Most of the towns I've been in have a gym with reasonably close truck parking.

In my opinion the gym at a truckstop idea is great! The downside would be that like everything else at a truckstop it would be ridiculously overpriced and poorly maintained and some drivers would just tear it up and ruin it for the rest of us.

Motels have this problem too. People tend to abuse things they're not a part of.
As a longtime gym rat, I tend to leave things cleaner and more organized than when I walked in, but I'm an exception.
As I'd said before, freeweights wouldn't be a good idea (although the best for development) due to the mess and insurance liabilities.
A deposit system comes to mind.

A novel idea my friend. I will be a certified trainer by January and I am in the process of getting funding to make this happen. I understand the need as well. And lets face it, these guys need to know how to eat well too. Maybe we can spark these travel center restaurants to have a healthier menu if they don't already have any.
    God Bless

Ain't no truck drivers gonna use a gym at a truckstop.

Maybe a larger buffet table would be a good investment.

Lol, they would be shut down in the parking lot for 2-3 days at a time because they are too sore to move afterwards. Not to mention all the 911 calls for heart attacks. Work that 6000 calories off you just ate at the buffet. :biggrin_25522:
