Best post I've read in quite some time. You think twice if you pay cash for stuff rather than throw out a credit card or write a check.

I've not read a lot of the prior posts in detail, but when I applied for my authority I got a lot of mail from "capital" companies. More than likely they're rates border on usuary. Thankfully I've been planning and working on this for quite some time before actually pulling the trigger and had my own $$ in place.

I do agree with a business plan though...loan or no loan, it's a great idea!

Yup, a biz plan is essential. It's your map in the business world... what you compare your profit/loss sheet to in order to see if the finances are still on course.

As far as working capital and loans... Ken Rutherford brought up an intriguing idea the other night: Peer-to-peer loans. Google it.

There are a number of these companies (web-based) that hook small investors with people needing loans, including business loans. You post what you need in capital and the interest rate you're willing to pay. The investors (who may invest as little as $50) sign on. When the loan is funded, you get the money desposited in your account. Sounds wierd, but it's a non-traditional way to get a biz loan in a time when banks aren't lending - even though we sent them the bucks to do so!
